If you are trying to write copy that is effective, one of the most important things that you must do is work to trigger an emotional response or reaction within your reader. This is essential whether you want to make a sale or you are working on a lead. No matter who you happen to be marketing your product or service to, human beings are the ones reading your copy and they often make purchases and decisions based on their emotions. So, here are five important emotional triggers to use within your copy for maximum effect.

Emotional Trigger #1 - Stimulate the Senses of the Reader - One emotional trigger that should be used when writing copy that is effective is making sure that you stimulate all the senses of your reader. Include all five senses - sight, sound, feel, taste, and smell. When you describe things uses the five senses, you make it feel more real to your potential customer or lead. This type of writing can actually transport your reader to where you are. So, it will lead to your readers being engaged, more aware, and yes, emotionally involved with what you are saying.

Emotional Trigger #2 - Show the Reader Great Benefits - You need to promise something to your reader. Give them the message that there is a great benefit to them in what you have to offer. Tell your reader how his or her life will be improved by using your product or service. The reader will always ask 'What's in it for me?' Show them.

Emotional Trigger #3 - Tell a Great Story - Using a story to sell your product is one of the best ways to draw and retain the interest of your readers. A story can draw in your reader and get them emotionally involved. You can convey your sales pitch to the reader without even seeming like you are trying to sell them anything! Your sales message will be much better remembered too, since it will have been incorporated into the story.

Emotional Trigger #4 - Incorporate Power Words - Power words can be used as an emotional trigger within copy as well. The words can spark excitement within your reader. Be sure you use vivid descriptions and power words that give your copy some punch. Avoid making your copy sound passive, but instead, show the product you are selling by action.

Emotional Trigger #5 - Honesty - Take out the hype. You can sell a good product using these emotional triggers and the best policy also happens to be the most effective emotional trigger: the truth. People can tell when something is all hype and no substance, so keep it honest and use a voice in your writing which inspires trust in your readers.

The only measure of a copywriter's talent... is how much and how fast he can sell his client's product! Not too long ago I was approached by a marketer who had a product idea - just the idea mind you. And he wanted to hire me to develop it... market it... sell it... and everything in-between. The reason being - he didn't have the time to do it himself. My first thought was... now here's a man after my own heart - lazy as the day is long, and dying to be rich and famous without lifting a finger.
