One of the first add-on services most cleaning contractors want to add to their janitorial service is floor care - stripping and waxing, burnishing, and buffing. In order to perform these services, you must use the right equipment for the job.

The following is a list of the most commonly used equipment that cleaning contractors use in floor care. Equipment is either electric, battery-operated, or propane. Most cleaning contractors will use electric equipment in smaller cleaning accounts and office buildings. Propane equipment is most often used on large floor areas such as those in retail stores and grocery stores.

Slow Speed Buffer (also known as a side-by-side or swing machine). Slow speed machines are used for a variety of tasks including stripping floors, scrubbing floors, sanding wood floors, and carpet cleaning using cotton bonnets. They come in sizes ranging from 13" (for use in tight areas) to 20", and have a speed ranging from 175 rpm to 300 rpm. You can also add a solution tank to a slow speed machine. This allows chemical to be applied through the drive unit. Some machines come with rear wheels that flip up so it can stand directly on the brush or pad, and fold-down handles that make it easier to transport.

High Speed Buffer/Burnisher. High speed machines are used for spray buffing, dry buffing, and burnishing hard floors, and are usually 17 - 28" in diameter. They have a speed ranging from 1000 rpm to 2700 rpm. These machines are used in floor care programs designed to keep that glossy look that makes floors look so great. High speeds have rear wheels that are fixed and remain in contact with the floor at all times, unlike the slow speed buffer.

Pad and Brushes: Pads are the most popular choice when using your hard floor machine. Manufacturers use a color-coded system to help you identify the type of pad you need to use. Colors may vary by manufacturer, but the darker colors are more aggressive, with black being the most aggressive. The lighter colors are less aggressive, with white being the least aggressive.

Be sure to use the right pad for the job (Note - colors vary by manufacturer):

* White Pad: Light dry polishing or light spray buffing for high gloss.

* Aqua Pad: Ideal for high-frequency, high gloss burnishing programs on softer floor finishes.

* Ultra Champagne Pad: Designed for low to moderate burnishing programs on harder floor finishes.

* Natural Hair Pad: Natural hair and synthetic fiber pad works well on a wide variety of floor finishes and traffic conditions.

* Green Scrubbing: Ideal for heavy-duty scrubbing or light stripping

* Black Stripping: For heavy duty stripping.

Brushes are a great alternative to pads when choosing what to use for stripping, scrubbing, or polishing. They are more expensive initially, but will out-last pads 10 to 1.

Depending on the type of business you are starting, try keep your staff as small as possible, and if it is possible try to get friends and family to help you out. The next most important thing about opening a small business is you supplier. The Small Business Administration estimates there are 580,900 new small businesses opening each year and that number does not include the small one-person entrepreneurship's that pop up every day.
Many aspiring entrepreneurs lack the characteristics and background they need to survive. They display several common traits that predispose them to failure, such as being too passive and casual, failing to develop an action plan or seek professional advice, and lack sufficient managerial experience. Also many small business owners only have time to work on their business on a part-time basis. Managing time, energy, finances along with all of life's other responsibilities and unpredictabilities becomes arduous. That being said, things will only change if more business-minded individuals take action, and do so wisely despite adversity.
I love Christmas. Always have. However, as a child, there was always one thing about the holiday that I hated the most, going to the post office. My mom was nuts about making sure all her sisters and grandparents got presents for Christmas, which meant us spending 3 hours in the post office. Sometimes we had to go multiple times because she would find she forgot to send a package.
A customer called today and informed us that he would not be able to pay their invoice for another two weeks due to cash flow problems. This particular customer has been in business for over 20 years. I never cease to be amazed by this. When the entrepreneur envisions his or her new business 20 years later, he or she sees a very successful and thriving company. All too often, this vision is not realized and it is due to poor managment. First of all, let me say that "lack of adequate cash" is never the problem - it is a symptom of the problem.
For many SMEs in China, 2008 has proven a disastrous year. Thousands upon thousands closed for soaring costs of production, mainly in materials and labor. The declining needs of overseas market are accompanied by the continuous rise in RMB. All signs seem to tell one fact - winter is coming.
Raising cattle for the agricultural market is one of the largest industries found within the commodities market and one which comes with distinct rewards and challenges. Whether it be a small scale ranch run by several generations of family members or a huge commercial cattle enterprise there are several aspects of cattle ranching you will find necessary to understand prior to venturing into this field.
One disadvantage of selling by telephone is the lack of face to face contact. Mastering this phone skill will give you an advantage over most sales people. When you are sitting with a prospect it's much easier to read their body language. You can see the look on their face when they're confused about something you said. You can see the delight when you hit a hot button for them. You can read the shifts in their body as they respond to your every word. Non verbal communication is missing when you sell by phone.
