Varicose veins is a painful condition characterized by prominent, swollen blood vessels on legs. Varicose veins can come with or without color differences. Prolonged cases of varicose veins can lead to conditions like skin ulcer.

Several factors can lead to the formation of varicose veins. Excessive pressure on legs, abdomen, etc can be the main reason. Obesity, old age, etc also can lead to this condition. Standing continuously for longer hours, tight clothing, etc can also lead to the condition.

Dietary Modifications Can Be Helpful

Having a balanced diet with all the essential nutrients and dietary fibers is helpful. Food prepared from wholegrain flours is an essential part. Also include variety of fruits that contain vitamin C (orange and other citrus fruits, Indian gooseberry, etc). Variety of vegetables of different colors - carrot, spinach, etc should also be included in your diet. Fruit items of different kinds - pineapple, banana, etc - are essential. Non-vegetarians or vegans must include lot of legumes in their diet. Others can take milk, egg, fish, etc on a daily basis.

Use onion, ginger, garlic etc as spices or condiments, especially while preparing meat. It is best to avoid pork and beef, while it is beneficial to include fish. Broiler chicken is really of no use and sows seeds of several other dreaded physical conditions. Ayurveda recommends a vegetarian lifestyle and asks you to avoid meat of all kinds. However, it is not just possible for many. Being a vegetarian is healthy. You can include moderate quantities of milk and egg in your diet.

Ayurvedic Treatments for Varicose Veins

Ayurveda recommends Brahmi as the herb of choice to treat varicose veins. It is observed use of brahmi (Bacopa) for four weeks can have positive effects on your body, controlling varicose veins.

Ayurveda Suggests Yoga for Varicose Veins Treatment

Practicing yoga can regularize blood circulation and can expel toxins from the body. Various yoga postures can promote blood circulation to the legs, which is helpful in preventing varicose veins from occurring. Though there isn't any single yoga posture aimed at curing varicose, there are a few postures that can be helpful. You can try pavana mukthasana (air relief), tadasana (palm tree pose), sarvangasana, etc. Practicing yoga can have several health benefits.

You can also try cardio exercises like walking, running, swimming, etc, if you have no chances of learning yoga from a master. These too are helpful in promoting blood circulation to legs.

Whatever you do, it is difficult to treat varicose vein, however it is easy to prevent it from happening. You can keep almost all types of diseases away by sticking to Ayurvedic dinacharya (daily lifestyle routine), which includes taking the right kind of food items, physical exercise including yoga, and having an active and fulfilling lifestyle.

Varicose vein is a painful condition. It can be addressed properly without resorting to surgery or invasive procedures. All you need to do is manage your lifestyle and diet. Both Ayurveda and Yoga can give you the guidelines to healthier living, which includes freedom from physical conditions including varicose vein.
