What I Don't Like About The iJoy Massage Chair

I know the iJoy massage chair is popular and I'm sure a lot of people who bought one are glad they did. But, for me, each of the iJoy Human Touch massage chairs falls short in every department. For the same price, you can buy a better chair from another manufacturer.

The first thing that would put me off ever buying an iJoy robotic chair is their general appearance. To me it's a classic case of when a company tries to make its products appear trendy but fails miserably. Call me old fashioned but I wouldn't put one of these chairs in my living room; maybe in my den where it would be out of sight. Unless you've seen one, it can be pretty hard to describe their 'trendy design' but to me most of the designs look like they were based on children's balloon sculptures.

Then, there's the upholstery. Some may like the faux suede but this sort of fabric can be pretty hard to keep clean. Why didn't they just use synthetic leather like everyone else, so you can easily wipe them clean? And, who chose the colors? There's black, a blue, a purple, a scarlet red, and an eye hurting fluorescent lime green.

Leaving aesthetics aside, I don't like the way the control unit is built-in to the armrest on the 130 model, the other models are better, in that the control unit is stored at the side of the armrest.

All the chairs, except the 300 model have manual recline. I can't really complain about this as no other chair at this price offers it either. But what I can complain about is that no chair in the iJoy massage chair range comes with a foot massager. If you want one you have to buy the ottoman separately. This isn't cheap and costs from around $250 up. If you buy the 300 model you still have to buy a foot massager; for the same price you can buy another brand that not only comes with a foot massager but more features.

All models have 4 massage modes on offer; rolling, kneading, compression and percussion and there are 4 range options; full, upper, lower and manual position. You can also manually adjust the roller discs to deliver the massage to where you want it. The actual massage delivered is okay; sure, there's better but you also have to pay a lot more. All in all, the massage is good if somewhat noisy.

The chairs are quite small, which many will appreciate. However, this does have the downside in that the vertical rolling reach has to be quite short also. Depending on what model you buy the reach is between 20 and 22 inches.

I would not recommend an iJoy massage chair. For the same price range you can buy a HoMedics eLounger Messaging Recliner. It comes with the same massage modes and without a footrest too. However, it does come in synthetic leather and its styling is actually quite pleasing.
