Outbound links are URLs on your site which point to other websites. Many webmasters spend all of their time focusing on getting inbound links to raise their page rank, but often forget about the importance of outbound links. While inbound links are important, outbound links must not be left out of your SEO strategy. When you place outbound links on your site, you are placing a vote for the site you are linking to. Outbound links play an important role in the algorithm of most search engines

The basic premise of outbound links is that if two or more sites with the same theme are linking to each other, the sites which have the most links pointing to them will be given a higher ranking by the search engines. Despite this, when you link to other sites which have the same theme, you will increase the prominence of your own website. Another important aspect of outbound links is local search. Many experts believe that local search is the next big stage of search engine marketing. While this is hard to determine at this time, having your local address placed on your website can only enhance the importance of your website.

Many webmasters have conducted experiments with outbound links by creating one page websites and adding a bunch of outbound links to them. These webmasters discovered that the page rank of these sites would increase, and these websites didn't have any outbound links. This is evidence that outbound links play an important role in the page rank of a website. Because of this, you will want to take the time to give outbound links to other websites which have sites with the same theme as yours. By doing this, you will find that the rankings for your own site will increase.

When it comes to SEO, it is sometimes important to be wary of conventional wisdom. While much of the advice given by webmasters is good, they sometimes leave out information which is just as important. With all the emphasis which has been placed on getting inbound links, don't forget to focus on outbound links as well.
