Leadership is one virtue that is not inborn but nurtured. Personality development is an interesting aspect of life. As a famous saying goes “You are not what you are; You are what you want to be”. We all want to be great achievers in life. Achievers transcend the ordinary. They do not do different things, but do things differently and successfully. A leader is one achiever who leaves a trail to follow, A trail that will forever be regarded as righteous, reliable and replicable (who else doesn’t want to imitate). They have risen from modest of modest beginnings, soared to great heights and withstood the ravages of time in their path to glory.
It is, therefore, important, not impertinent to identify leadership qualities in and around a social order. They are indispensable for the well being of the society. A society, that has to march towards prosperity in tandem with the diverse forces trying to dismantle it. We needed a Mahatma for our independence, a Lincoln to bring end the civil war in America and Nelson Mandela to eradicate apartheid in South Africa. They stood for their people and voiced their concerns. Ultimately, their diligence, charm and charisma worked into the hearts of the people and they set examples for generations to come for achieving their objective. Hence, leaders are representatives of a group of like minded people working towards a goal. Isn’t this a caliber that each one should posses? There is no dearth of good qualities in oneself; a selfless attitude in alliance with a burning desire to help the less privileged will always be a distinct quality of a meticulous leader. The more, the better for the society.
Surprisingly, many of us wouldn’t have been aware of the leadership qualities in us, except when we are caught unawares in an extraordinary situation. In an otherwise normal life, one isn’t exposed to such anomalies every other day. The strength and acumen to handle these tasks in an effective manner is what makes the leader stand apart from his peers. These traits are influenced by the way one is brought up and the circumstances he is exposed to. Though ordinary or affluent, a person should bear the persona to rise above the ordinary and lead from the front when the need arises. Camps, counseling sessions, sermons, and society gatherings all play a crucial part in molding a layman to a leader. Nobody knows when the transition will take into effect.
Thus, it is never a game too old to play the role of a leader. We should prepare ourselves to be the fore runner, surpass the line of mediocrity and set high standards for prospective trailblazers. A strict regimen of exercising the mind, body and soul will fortify our stance to become consistent, confident and capable leaders. Today’s world is in dire need of such workforce. Every person, in his own simple way, can contribute, by preserving the ethics of mankind, respect the existence of his subsidiaries and have the fortitude to fight for their privileges. Sure to say “Great leaders do not bloom, they are sculptured”.
