Look around and you will begin to notice those rare individuals who go out of their way for others. These are people who actually "make your day" by doing something for you that you never expect.

We have come to be jaded when we engage in our work or in our relationships. Sometimes we do the bare minimum required or we simply ignore an unction to go a little beyond what is required.

Fortunately there are still people who operate on a different plane than most of us. They simply have a habit, learned or inborn, that makes them the special people of this world.

A mechanic who is particularly attentive, a fellow employee who helps you complete a task not in their job description, or even a casual aquaintance who does something to handle your crisis to lighten your load. All these people are focusing on making your day a bit happier and easier and they are getting valuable benefits themselves sometimes not even realizing it.

You see, they know that offering a helping hand can never be a bad thing. It's a great attitude to live by no matter who you are or what you do. Your high self image is something that shines out beyond the boundaries of what you think your deeds mean to those who benefit from your helping hand.

Think of it this way. There's nothing that beats the joy you feel when someone surprises you by going the extra mile, right? Conversly, there is nothing like the feeling you will get when you are the one doing good unto others.

It's obvious that nature encourages the habit of going the extra mile. Every animal or plant in the ecosystem is programmed to reach beyond it's grasp so that they are ever expanding and contributing. Without this unstoppable programming, the environment would become stale and eventually die. It's as if the world demands that working harder is necessary for survival. If every human on the planet adopted this philosophy of thinking about the good of our fellow humans the world would undoubtedly be a much better place.

I can recall a world where service was always courteous and delivered with a glowing smile. You occasionally still see it today but it's a rare event anymore. We now come to expect lax service with a forced smile everywhere we go. We are quite startled when someone actually seems to care about our business. Unfortunately, it's possible to still earn a paycheck without ever having to push the boundaries of what you will and will not do in terms of making a customer happy but, if you stretch yourself beyond what is expected, there are great benefits to be had.

My 10 Reasons you should start going the extra mile:

1. Can foster a sense of direction in life
2. Turn you attitude from negative to positive
3. Encourages initiative
4. Improve the environment for you and everyone else around you
5. Make you an invaluable employee
6. You might get a pay raise or promotion without asking
7. Has a positive effect on all those around you – coworkers, clients etc.
8. Clear conscience
9. Will make you a person of action
10. Doing more than expected will give your spirit a boost

That satisfying feeling you get inside when you go the extra mile for someone else is irreplaceable. There's no substitute for getting a heartfelt thanks from someone and you can rest easy in the knowledge that you have made life a whole lot easier for those around you. Not only this, each person you help will hope to work with you more often, in fact, will seek you out when it comes to giving you some benefit without you even asking for it.

Doing the extra brings surprise benefits. Why not try to incorporate this idea into your daily life. By setting a goal that you will forget the benefit to you and go out of your way for someone else on a daily basis – you commit yourself to that warm fuzzy glow daily too and you open doors for others to go the extra mile for you!

One of the biggest benefits of going the extra mile is it will surely make you stand out in a crowd and, of course, this might just help you achieve that financial or career success you dream of.

Diversity is so much more than race and ethnicity. Take a white person and have him raised by African-American parents, and his culture will be that of African-American. Conversely, a black child raised by Caucasian parents will have a Caucasian culture. And, there is President Obama.
Personality is important but unless we make the most of our first impression with new people we meet, often we won't get a second chance. A tag line in an ad on TV said "inner beauty is nice but outer beauty is what is really important". This being the total opposite of what we have always been told growing up. We still are drawn to attractive people first.
More and more professionals today are tired of the frenzied, highly demanding age we live in – the constant pressures brought about by the wish to succeed, be financially secure, fit and healthy, sociable, a good wife and parent. Career women, in particular, have to cope with the sometimes very emotional challenge of juggling family and work demands trying to maintain a work-life balance, which if not achieved can be extremely detrimental to their physical, mental and emotional health.
Most successful business women are so busy that just walking through the gym door is an accomplishment. If you're going to make the effort count, then it's time to harness 10 strengths that will relieve boredom in your workout routine and recharge your passion for sweat and spandex.
I just got tired of always looking for the next person to give me the information I needed to move ahead. Do you ever feel that way? I wanted to be able to see the whole big picture. I knew I was ready for more detailed, focused information and I bet you are, too.
A whopping number of women are working full time jobs and raising families. We are professionals, employees, entrepreneurs, mothers, wives, sisters, daughters and friends. Some of us even do our best to be everything to everyone, but at what cost? We working moms must start to pay attention to the quality of our lives. My question is; are you making anytime for YOU or have you become a martyr? You can spot martyr behavior by asking yourself, if you ever display or exaggerate your discomfort or distress to obtain sympathy or admiration. If you do, chances are you are behaving like a martyr.
For more than 50 years, more and more women are working full time jobs and raising families. We are mothers, wives, sisters, daughters and friends. We do our best to have "it" all. But at what cost?

Now, more than ever before, we must pay attention to the quality of our lives. Being better, faster, smarter is not a healthy, balanced way to live.
