If you find that no matter how much tooth brushing you do, you still seem to suffer from bad breath, and if you further find that your tongue that gone a strange whitish color, you may be very close to a simple solution. Tongue cleaning or scraping is an important task to incorporate into your daily brushing routine to keep it clean and make it as difficult as possible for bacteria to gain a foothold.

Some recommendations say that you can use your toothbrush to clean your tongue, but recent reports have explained that this merely spreads the bacteria across the tongue. A tongue scraper, which is a specialist tool that is quite effective is inexpensive and it only takes a few moments to lightly run the scraper over the tongue working from the back to the front. Using a proper scraper also reduces the likelihood that the gag reflex will be caused, something that would be higher if using a toothbrush.

The protein rich surface of the tongue harbors the highest amount of bacteria thriving in the oral cavity. A daily scraper with a tongue scraper will get into these crevasses and clean them out.

The grooves and fissures that cover the tongue can catch a large variety of bacteria, oral fungi, decaying food particles, and dead cells. The development of this process can be seen as a white coating of the tongue which, if left untouched will eventually cause bad breath (also known as halitosis) and may affect the health of teeth and gums (tooth decay and gingivitis).

Tongue scraping is a relatively quick and easy process that, once started on a daily basis, can be performed with a minimum of fuss. It’s not necessary to use a great deal of force when you clean your tongue. As long as you press firmly enough to allow the tongue scraper to lie flat across the tongue, you can be assured that the scraping will be effective. You then just have to ensure that your don’t miss a spot in the cleaning process.

You must also remember that tongue cleaning alone won’t prevent bad breath. Tongue cleaning will simply remove the conditions in which some bad breath causing bacteria thrives. Tooth brushing and using a mouthwash may also be part of a bad breath solution.

Tongue cleaning is a fairly straight forward task, it need not take a terribly long time and can be incorporated into your teeth brushing routine. The extra minute you take may go along way towards eliminating or preventing bad breath and will provide a much more hygienic environment in which bacteria will have difficulty living.

Bad breath can prove to be a big turn-off for many people. The consequences of going through life with bad breath can prove to be a very devastating experience for many sufferers. With more than 90 people suffering from chronic bad breath, it is certainly not an issue to be dismissed lightly. Now, how do you get rid of bad breath effectively without breaking your bank to do it?
Bad breath is breath that has a disagreeable odor. It's also called as halitosis. This odor can hit from time to time, otherwise it can be long-lasting, depending on the reasons. Millions of bacteria exist in the mouth, mainly on the back of the tongue. In a lot of people, they are the main causes of bad breath. The mouth's warm, moist situation is ideal for the increase of these bacteria. A large amount bad breath is caused by something in the mouth.
Halitosis, oral malodor (scientific term) and , breath odor, foul breath, fetor oris, fetor ex ore, or most commonly bad breath are those terms used to describe noticeably unpleasant odors exhaled in breathing – whether the smell is a from an oral source or not. Halitosis has a major impact - personally and socially - on those who suffer from it or to believe they do (halitophobia), and is estimated to be the 3rd most common reason for seeking dental aid, following tooth decay and periodontal disease.
Store shelves are overflowing with mints, mouthwashes and other products designed to help people combat and prevent bad breath. Yet these products help control bad breath (halitosis) only temporarily. Certain foods, health conditions and habits are among the causes of bad breath. In many cases, you can improve bad breath with proper dental hygiene. But, if simple self-care techniques don't solve the problem, you may want to see your dentist to be sure a more serious condition isn't causing your bad breath.
Many rumors circulate from time to time about the cause of chronic bad breath, or halitosis. Does it emanate from the mouth or actually from somewhere in the gastrointestinal tract? You can almost rule out the theory of bad breath(BB) coming from places other than the mouth. The esophagus is collapsed normally and air can only escape in the form of the occasional burp! If your mouth and teeth are healthy (unhealthy or infected gums and teeth would be an immediate cause of bad breath) you should first check the dorsum, or that area on the back of the tongue.
The foods eaten also are a potential cause of halitosis. Certain foods, such as garlic, onions and certain spices are frequently cited as cause for a person's bad breath. Both vegetarians and those who eat large quantities of meat may develop bad breath due, in part, to the digestive process. Digestion begins in the mouth. Saliva has enzymes which begin the digestion process, and the type of food eaten can affect the food chemistry of the mouth.
