Bunions are painful, swollen pads overlying the joint at the base of the big toe. They begin as an inflammation of the joint, which swells so that the overlying skin becomes red, hard, and sore. If left untreated, the ligaments in the toes shorten, pushing them together in what often becomes a permanent deformity.
Pain may occur in part or all of the leg, including the hip, thigh, knee, calf, and foot. When pain is felt within the joint area itself (where two bones join) and is accompanied by swelling, heat, or stiffness, there may be an underlying condition, such as arthritis, or a musculoskeletal dysfunction of the joint. When pain spreads diffusely into the leg, it may be spinal or pelvic dysfunction or "referred" from the back.
When the nervous system is affected through irritation, damage, or disease, it can result in either partial or complete paralysis. This can be flaccid paralysis, perhaps the result of a severed nerve, which leaves the muscles floppy and without sensation, or spastic weakness of paralysis, when the muscles become rigid due to nerve damage in the brain or spinal cord, perhaps following a stroke. Paralysis can be either temporary or permanent. In diseases such as Parkinson's or MS, there may be weakness without paralysis.
Since the early 1900s, as psychology developed and the unconscious began to be explored, the role that the creative process can play in revealing and healing has been studied and clarified. Emotions are experienced - without the filter of words - in the body itself, and emotional memories are encoded and stored there.

Light and sound therapies are "sensory" because they act on the human senses through waves of both sound and light. Sitting in the sun or listening to a favorite piece of music can definitely affect your mood.
Behavioral therapy, or behavioral modification, is a psychological technique based on the premise that specific, observable, maladaptive, badly adjusted, or self-destructing behaviors can be modified by learning new, more appropriate behaviors to replace them.
Autogenic training (AT) originated in the 1930s as a result of Dr. Johannes Schultz's development of earlier German research into sleep and hypnosis. Physicians noticed that if they emphasized suggestions of environmental heaviness and warmth, their patients tended to enter a mental state in which fatigue and tension disappeared.
Sound Therapy is a unique listening system using new knowledge about the brain. Based on the discoveries of the ear specialist, Dr Tomatis, the method developed by Patricia and Rafaele Joudry is now available as a portable self help program that can be used by anyone, anywhere.
Radionics is a body of ideas and practice concerning the concept of subtle energy and its transmission from one person to another (or any living being, including agriculture and horticulture) for healing purposes.
