Oatmeal in skin care products has been around as long as I can remember and I will say that I am now over 50 years old. As a teenager I recall using facial masks and bath and body products that contained oatmeal. I loved oatmeal skin care products then, and to this day I still use oatmeal in my skin care routine. The only difference now is that I make my own oatmeal scrubs and masks and will soon try my hand at making some oatmeal bar soaps.

Keratosis Pilaris is a skin problem that leaves a 'chicken skin' appearance on your skin. This skin problem is often mistaken for acne and the most common thing individuals do is to pick and squeeze on those small and hard bumps. Facial keratosis pilaris can leave scarring, so let's find out which treatments are available to deal with this skin condition.
Expert Author: Catalina Igor | Summary
Keratosis pilaris is an inherited condition of the skin in which the hair follicles become clogged with hair and devitalized cells from the external layer of skin. This occurs as the skin tries to regenerate itself. Usually, dead skin cells would shed off rapidly, but when this genetic condition is present, they get trapped within hair follicles. The follicles get irritated and inflamed generating papules; tiny rough pink bumps on the surface of the skin. They are numerous in the afflicted area and each one is a horny plug, usually rather red but only rarely itchy and never sore.

To define a stretch mark is not an easy task. We find ourselves in this situation because we must be sure to take into account what generates a stretch mark and makes it visible. The main idea we must expose here is the fact that a stretch mark doesn't just appear, it establishes itself in between your skin layers and is articulated by a procedure that is related to the stretching of the skin.
Expert Author: Louise Lundgren | Summary
It's very unfortunate that our skin doesn't just bounce back after it has been stretched by pregnancy, weight gain or weight loss. It may instead become decorated by a form scarring scientifically known as striae or more commonly stretch marks. Stretch marks often commence as a reddish or purplish color and then become glossier, appearingshowing streaked in silver or white. Stretch marks occur in the middle layer of the skin which allows it to keep its shape, known as the dermis. When the dermis is constantly stressed and stretched it can be broken down leaving behing stretch marks.

The changes that occur as we get older are both in appearance and in how we function. However, aging is not a process that occurs at the same rate in all individuals, although all people do age. The part of aging that occurs just because we are older is named intrinsic. An example of an intrinsic change that occurs in the tissue itself is the graying of hair. Hormonal changes, like the change in the secretion of sebum in the skin, occurs because of reduced secretion of androgen hormones elsewhere in the body.

Stretch marks develop in those parts of the body where fat deposition is high. They can develop during pregnancy, obesity, puberty or rapid muscle growth. Men and women both are susceptible to stretch marks. Healthy diet can help you avoid stretch marks. Try stretch mark treatment to remove those ugly marks.

Now that the "acid reign" is virtually over and alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) have very nearly been put back into the hands of the professional skin practitioners where they belong, dermatologists and specialists in many parts of the globe are having to deal with patients whose skins are over-damaged by exaggerated application of acid formulas; especially from home-care solutions.

The future of the beauty industry is, according to many observers, dependant on the organic and natural trend, the cosmetics market's fastest growing section. Lately, there has been an increment in the interest in natural alternatives to beauty care, and it has now fully entered the public consciousness with an increasing number of new solutions being made available to us each year.

Having a healthy skin requires a lot of personal work. You will need to make a serious effort when taking care of your skin, until it becomes a habit. A healthy diet, adequate sleep and regular exercise are essential for a healthy skin. Do avoid going out in the sun, and if you need to, start using a sunscreen to protect your skin from sun damage.

Stretch marks (striae) - pink, red or purple streaks on the skin — may occur where skin is rapidly stretched. Stretch marks are most often associated with rapid weight gain and pregnancy. Unfortunately, there are very few effective treatments for stretch marks. Drink plenty of water. Adequate hydration keeps your skin soft and less likely to develop stretch marks. Caffeine can increase your risk of stretch marks. If you're stuck on your caffeinated coffee or tea, make sure you balance the fluids.

There are several treatments available for young adults who have scars as a result of their acne. We would not suggest products that you can purchase by mail or over the counter at health food stores. They are ineffective in most cases and will only cost you money. What we would recommend is that you consult with a dermatologist (a doctor who is trained to treat problems of the skin) who specializes in this area. The results you will get will depend on the degree of the scarring as well as the depth of the scar.

Getting rid of skin tags with a scalpel or scissors is a common and easy way to get rid of skin tags at home. Make sure the blade you use is sharp and sanitized (use an open flame, rubbing alcohol, or hydrogen peroxide), and cut as quickly and closely to the healthy skin as you can. Some bleeding may occur, but shouldn’t last for more than a minute. Tweezers may also be used to pull the skin tag off. Getting rid of skin tags this way will likely be painful, and you might want to numb the area first with an ice cube, or other cold substance.

A blackhead is caused by excess oil that has clogged a pore. This clog occurs when the built-up oil is unable to flow to the surface of the skin due to a misshapen or impaired pore and dead skin cells blocking the way. When the pore is open, the oil is exposed to oxygen, which reacts and turns it a dark color, resulting in a black head.

A skin tag, medically known as a cutaneous papilloma or an acrochordon, is merely a small sliver of skin, a benign skin tumor larger and generally flatter than a wart. Except for those tags which hang by stalks (peduncles) like earrings and give the appearance of melting skin, tags make it look as if the victim is growing soft, fleshy scales.
