Posted by Answers Community

I am going away, I don't like aeroplanes, I always get rumbles in my stomach and i feel like i am going to be sick. What can I do?

Eat lightly before. Do not go on a totally empty stomach, it is actually worst. And ginger is supposed to help, although I never tried it myself.
I found that the hard way when a flight test I was taking part was delayed until after lunch time (and I did not have lunch). It was a lot rougher ride than airline flight as we needed to test stalls and spins to see where the airflow would detach (and I was trying to tape that with a video camera from one of the side window). Bad idea.
Also, try to get a window seat, looking outside will give your eyes a moving clue that you can associate with motion. Looking only at stuff inside the fuselage will mismatch your physical sensations (acceleration, rotations) with the vision (since all stuff inside the fuselage appear to be non moving).
I also find that the hard way when we did some tests in a flight simulator: the pilots were fine since they had the simulated image from the front window, but I was on a side console, looking at a computer monitor, which evidently gave no motion clues. I was a bit green around the gills by the time the test concluded.
So if you feel a bit nauseated, there is nothing to be ashamed of. Give yourself some help (window seat) and you'll be fine. You may eventually enjoy the ride and even like air travel.
