Most businesses today work through a system of checks and balances. A small group or individual may be given a project, only to have their work turned over to the next group who will further refine their product as it works its way further up the chain. A common problem with this process is the difficulty in overcoming the issue of having all hands on deck at any given time.

I recently had an interesting inquiry from a Twitter follower asking the question "Which would you say is safest, Firefox or IE?". Not a question that hasn't been asked before, but in light of the happenings of the past few days a far deeper question than it may seem on the surface.

Following my earlier examination of Windows 7 security, I have decided to create a series of articles detailing the security features of Windows 7 (and Windows Server 2008 R2) and what implications they have for the enterprise. First, I am going to highlight the features of Microsoft DirectAccess, which is a new VPN-like tunneling feature newly added to Windows 7 and 2008 R2.

As of late the American media has been afire about some important data leakage events that appear to have occurred within the Defense Department and it contractors in the February time frame. Blueprints and other secret information on the Joint Strike Fighter and the President's personal helicopter Marine One were leaked through P2P networks.

Canada is making its mark on the international scene and applying pressure on Facebook to do more to protect users from privacy violations by 3rd party applications. At first glance Facebook's plan doesn't look too bad, but with further thought it clearly has some issues.

After a busy summer, I finally got around to spending some quality time with Windows 7 "XP Mode" beta on the RTM version of Windows 7.Sophos CTO Richard Jacobs commented on XP Mode's lack of management included in the base operating system on Graham's blog. Today I am going to cover security in XP mode as a user, excluding my comments on management.

I recently reported on donate.barackobama.com being hacked. While Blue State Digital and the Democratic Nationinal Committee may disagree, I stand by the statement. It was clear that something was incorrectly configured, whether the data that was exposed belonged to Obama's team or not.

Now that we in the northern hemisphere have had some time to digest the Windows 7 hype and settle in for the coming winter, we thought we would get some more hard data regarding Windows 7 security. On October 22nd, we settled in at SophosLabs and loaded a full release copy of Windows 7 on a clean machine. We configured it to follow the system defaults for User Account Control (UAC) and did not load any anti-virus software.

I was happily snacking away on my lunch break here in Vancouver when suddenly my TweetDeck Twitter client sounded the alert for incoming direct messages. If you are not a Twitter user, direct messages are private messages between Twitter accounts. You can only send a direct message to someone who is following you on Twitter, no strangers allowed.

As promised this summer, Adobe has synchronized with Microsoft and released their updates on the same day, the second Tuesday of the month... albeit a month late from the original promise. As usual those of us in the security business cannot stress enough the importance of applying these updates as soon as safely possible.

I find it a delight to use both as an author and a publisher. It is full of nice little surprises that make the whole process of writing, reading and publishing articles a complete delight. This is one that comes out tops and beats the rest hands down.

I did a Google search and came across your site. It was exactly what I was looking for and was elated to find such a broad range of articles. As I am launching a free magazine in a small town in Florida, I wanted to be as resourceful as possible while still being able to provide some content that is interesting and well written. Your site has all the variables in the mix. Excellent Site hitting all the notes in the scale sort of speak.
