Google To Open R&D Center In Singapore
With Google’s move to set up a R&D center in Singapore, netizens around the world may soon get to use Google products developed here.
This R&D center in Singapore is Google’s first in South-East Asia, and signals its foray into tailoring its search engine and advertisements for the region.
Google currently has eight R&D centers around the world, three of which are in Asia - China, India and Japan.
According to Google’s managing director of sales and operations in South-East Asia, Mr Richard Kimber, Singapore was picked for its “very vibrant ICT Space”.
In addition, Google had earlier this month confirmed that it would be opening a sales office in Singapore to beef up its online advertising services to local advertisers and those in the region.
Richard Kimber said that Google sees Singapore as a key player in online advertising, and has already started establishing partnerships with companies here.
This move by Google is definitely a major coup for Singapore which is branding itself as the region’s technology hub.
