Last Monday I sought and secured an apt with an acupuncturist seeking relief from excruciating leg and back pain. I’ve had some pain these past months, but Sunday it flared up in a new way--uber pain--and I needed relief. The highly trained and expert acupuncturist explained to me that in a perfectly healthy body oxygen and blood flow freely through our veins and arteries to feed our organs and muscles. Yet when blockages occur in our arteries and veins, the potential for disease erupts, often followed by symptoms; i.e., pain. Well, yes, I was definitely in the pain category!
Well I won't totally unpack the entire speech here, since I've written an entire article about it. Yet I will say that I believe the reason that the media jumped on the bandwagon almost immediately attesting that it wasn't a Home Run speech was that it contained a lot of references to lowly slaves, especially at the beginning and first half, and yes, I'm suggesting that perhaps some latent racism had a hard time celebrating the truth about the horrors that America's slaves endured.
Of all the foreign policy messes George W. Bush is handing off to President-elect Barack Obama, Venezuela's Hugo Chavez is the worst. On the two tests where Chavez is the key - shaping a respectful long-term relationship with Latin America and the short-term terrorist threat from Venezuela - Bush scored an F. Obama's got real work carved out for him.
A half century ago, Juan Pablo Perez Alfonso, the Venezuelan who started OPEC, said, "Ten years from now, twenty years from now, you will see: oil will bring us ruin... Oil is the Devil's excrement." Hugo Chavez, who was an infant when those words were spoken, is now learning their truth.
Oh my - I guess we should all be eternally grateful for government officials who have the foresight to see these issues as the problems they really are and to take a stand for positive change. Well - maybe "eternally" is not a good choice of words, since that kind of gets me back into the whole God thing again.
Many have several thoughts on Sarah Palin. I personally admire the woman for a few reasons. She’s married with five children, the youngest of which is challenged, but yet is able to maintain a high profile career. She’s also family focused with a good head on her shoulder, and could possibly be this country’s next Vice President.
As more voters focus on the United States presidential election, the media continues to highlight the importance of race in this election. The political boxing match has already begun. The two candidates now face off in a racial controversy. Senator John McClain accused his Democratic opponent of playing the race card. Media commentators started the process of breaking down each and every word. With a white mother from Kansas and a black father from Kenya, Barak Obama makes voters uneasy with his racial background.
