  • The Attack Of The Bear - She talked about it; she dreamed about it, she never let it go. This was how a friend of mine regarded her fear of coming across a bear when we would go hiking in the wilderness areas of Idaho. Her character is strong in all other ways. She is kind, hard working, intelligent, prosperous and loving. But when the word "bear" crosses those ears of hers, she turns to Jell-O. In other words, her life is somewhat Un-Bear-Able! We were hiking last spring in the Coeur d'Alene mountains going for a 10 mile excursion to visit one of the beautiful alpine lakes that are plentiful through out this part of Idaho.
  • The Perfect Family Ski Vacation - In December 2007 our family enjoyed an amazing holiday ski vacation. Christmas morning the kids found out that in addition to the gifts under the tree, Santa had given them a ski adventure trip...and we were leaving that very day!
  • Tokyo Reflections - The setting sun cast a shimmering hue of gold across the cerulean sea as I made my way past the outcropping of rock that dotted the pristine shoreline. I was making good time, though thoughts of why and where I was bound seemed inconsequential as I luxuriated in the exquisite feeling of weightlessness that enveloped my body. Inexplicably and without warning I was suddenly drawn into a vortex of sound dominated by the shrill chant of a woman armed with a microphone, who standing ominously over me as I slept repeated the same incomprehensible name over and over again.... As I abruptly sat up in bed  it took a bleary eyed moment to realize the madwoman who had somehow managed to enter my room was in reality driving past my apartment in one of the numerous vans that I and the rest of the populous would be subjected to for the next several weeks.
  • My Paris Holidays - We spent a week-end in Paris. We passed a half of the country to get to the city and were extremely surprised by the emptiness around: the fields are gathered in and not a single soul around...our guide explained that France is a very centralized country, only the capital of the country is busy and animated. But in Paris life is in full swing! The city produced a great impression upon me! It is very beautiful and is totally unlike the other European cities I've been to! It is charming, elegant, intriguing, coquettish, captivating... The Parisians are also not like the other Europeans.
  • My Journey To Rome - I decided to share my impressions about the trip to Rome as my emotions still linger...
  • Heaven is a Place in Mexico - I didn't think it would be that easy. It was a silly idea between my best friend and me, that mushroomed into something else. Let's take a trip. Get lost in Mexico. And we giggled like school girls as we planned on sunning ourselves on pristine beaches, sipping on pina coladas, and the occasional (not!) Bloody Mary. Then miraculously, both our schedules at work cleared up.
  • Cochrane, Ontario and return to the States - The drive from Cochrane to Wawa is 280 miles or 450 KM taking a little under 6 hours the way we drive. Only one bear was sited and it was near Chapleau. We had lunch at the hotel there.
  • Moose Factory Island, Ontario, Canada - We boarded Polar Princess this morning and have traveled from Moosonee to James Bay and are now returning to visit Moose Factory Island before we return to Moosonee. Our tour of the Island is beginning. Arriving at the dock on the island we walked a short distance to a school bus. Here too, the roads are all dirt. Our guide, Rachel*, told us a little about the island before she started the bus because she would be unable to talk over the noise. The hospital is heated by steam, along with the housing for the health care professionals.
  • Polar Princess Return from James Bay, Canada - The hospital is on the Moose Factory Island causing transportation difficulties during the warmer season. Rachel*, our guide, told us when her mother was pregnant with her older sister during spring break up a helicopter was also in service.
  • Polar Princess - Moosonee River to James Bay, Canada - Today is Canada Day. The 140th birthday of Canada is today and Canada treats it like the Fourth of July in the United States., as well they should. Breakfast was to be available at 6:30. We were down there with the rest of the guests at 7. Because there was a light rain, the owner drove us over in his truck, a pick up, so he had to make three trips to deliver us all.
  • Polar Bear Express Arrival in Moosonee, Ontario - This continues the description of our train ride from Cochrane to Moosonee, Ontario. There are no roads connecting the two cities so to travel to Moosonee one must take the train. In the summer the train is called "The Polar Bear Express.
  • Polar Bear Express Riding the Rails to Moosonee - Anxious! Excited! Which? Both! I am a child again! At 5:45 I called the front desk to cancel my 6 am wake up call. The restaurant did not open until 6:30 so we made sure we were ready. Entering the restaurant my wife and I were the only ones there. Wow, we were early!
  • Polar Bear Habitat - Initially I was disappointed. After paying $42 CA, no bears were to be seen. There were several people in the viewing area. The Habitat has two areas separating the one male from the two females. Each of the areas is quite large, big enough for a medium sized home with enough space for grass to mow!
  • Cochrane, Ontario, Where the Polar Bear Express Begins - We checked into the Station Inn in Cochrane a day early because we did not see as many bears or moose as we wanted while in Chapleau. The hotel rooms are on the second floor of the train station with a restaurant on the first. We were sitting in the restaurant about 8:15 in the morning when an announcement was made that the Polar Bear Express was approaching on the far track.
  • Chapleau to Cochrane: A Moose? - Anxiously we left the hotel about 9:45 wishing and praying that we might see a moose on the road to Timmons.
  • Chapleau Crown Game Preserve: Early Evening - After dinner we again headed for the Chapleau Game Preserve. I turned on the side road where our first bear was sited this morning. I did not expect to see any, knowing that they do travel around. No bear was seen. We returned to the main road. Slowing at each lake we scanned the shore line for any movement and the water for any sign of animal life. Again we stopped at the "Beaver House" sign straining our eyes to see any movement. We are not sure if we even saw the "house.
  • Chapleau Crown Game Preserve: The first Platform - We left the hotel around 9 AM, equipped only with a map of the Preserve and directions from the hotel clerk heading toward the Chapleau Crown Game Preserve. A sign signaling the entrance to the Preserve was not seen. Seeing a picnic stop we turned into it just to take a peek.
  • Chapleau Crown Game Preserve: Platform 3 - Black Bear - "Platform # 3" was next and it was a little more substantial. It also had a mound of wood chips at the entrance to the path and a worn walkway around it.
  • Black Bear: Wawa to Chapleau - One of the things I have had trouble with while driving in Ontario was the distance to a city was given in kilometers.
  • A First Time Visitors View of London, England - Just a few days into my 4 week overseas adventure I was packing my bags and moving on from my brief experience of life in Thailand. Next on my list were the epic sights of London, England. Leaving through the airport in Bangkok was absolute chaos, they were building another airport at the time to accommodate for increased numbers and judging by my experience it couldn't come soon enough.
