In the simplest explanation alopecia is the Latin name for baldness. So therefore when anyone talks about alopecia that's what they mean. But what does it mean for you? Well that depends on several things. It depends on whether or not you are a man or a women. It depends also on the level of balding i.e. thinning hair of complete baldness and lastly it depends on whether or not it's genetic, hormonal or both. So there are a lot of factors covered by the general term.

Hair loss can also be caused by some external factors like pulling of hair. The hair loss caused by pulling of hair too tightly is known by the name of Traction Alopecia. The article describes the disease and its acute and chronic form.

There are more types of hair loss for women than there are for men. Women in particular seem to now be suffering hair loss in greater numbers than ever before and this seems to be attributed to our stress filled lifestyle and often bad diets.

Alopecia is the Latin term for balding so if you're looking for a balding cure then you will know you are on the right track when you see the term Alopecia. Now if you are unfortunate to have bald patches it's likely that you are suffering from alopecia areata and that you are a women, I'm not being sexist - it's just that most sufferers of this condition happen to be females and that is important to consider to get an effective cure.

The fact is that it is harder for men to get a cure for baldness because of the way men are made compared to women. I know it sounds ridiculous in the age of 'equality' but some things can be equal but never be the same if you know what I mean!

Whenever we hear the term hair loss, we assume that it's a condition that predominantly affects men. This is not true though, as approximately four women in 10 will, in their lives, experience hair loss at some time. If this is the real picture, why don't we see and hear more about it?

Androgenetic alopecia (a.k.a. androgenic alopecia or alopecia androgenetica) is a common form of hair loss experienced by both males and females. Androgenetic alopecia hair loss among males is also called male pattern baldness. And in the case of females it is called female pattern baldness.

Alopecia areata is one of hair loss types, the comforting news is that alopecia areata is not a painful disease and does not make people feel sick physically.

The problem of hair loss is very common and both the genders suffer through this problem. Hair loss is the state in which hair starts becoming thin and eventually fall. Also in this state not much hair grows on head and it leads to situation of baldness. The problem of hair loss is common to both men and women but the pattern of hair loss is not same. It has come to a time where female hair loss is no longer a stranger to society. There are several common causes of to this unsightly condition. The most common cause for hair loss among women is androgenetic alopecia, a genetically-caused cosmetic disorder, which is related to the androgen hormones. While androgens are related to hair growth, a particular androgen called DHT (dihydrotesterone) is found to be a contributing factor to pattern baldness, hence the term 'alopecia', which refers to hair loss.

A medical diagnosis usually proceeds by the doctor identifying a set of symptoms that constitute a specific disorder, for which there is (hopefully) are known and effective hair loss treatments. Unfortunately, alopecia does not fit this pattern, so doctors are faced with a very difficult task. Hair loss in women is starting to become common enough that it is now being called "female pattern hair loss". This is a fairly all-encompassing term because there are so many reasons that a woman can lose hair. Male hair loss has been easily explained for years, having its basis in the behavior of a set of hormones called androgens. The androgens are testosterone, androsteinedione, and dihydrotestosterone and are also found in the female body in much smaller amounts that in men. There are many things that can make a woman lose her hair.
