Hardscape is all those items, usually relatively large, such as: paths, patios, paved areas, arbours and the like. As opposed to "softscape" which is all the plants and greenery. Driveways, walkways, or paths, are the most common elements of the hardscape. These elements are a necessity in most homes as they provide clear and clean access, from one place to another, without tramping through and damaging the gardens areas.

Garden buildings have long been part of the British domestic landscape. As well as functional sheds and greenhouses there are chalets, summer houses, arbours and gazebos, all designed to enhance our gardens and give them character - or give us somewhere to escape to. No matter how beautifully a garden is landscaped, it doesn't look complete unless it contains a building of some kind, even if it's only a humble potting shed.

I think that ideas which China given to us, will be useful to those who want to reach high level in landscape gardening and designing. No one garden in China was not created without patience and sensation of harmony and you mast to like the Chinese philosophy.

Garden landscaping is all about creativity. For some people, this can be a hard concept to grasp, but most of us are creative to some degree. If you've ever put up wallpaper, chosen carpet or moved furniture to improve a room layout, then you can landscape a garden.

Many people think about garden design only in terms of plant choices. But picking plants is the last and often easiest part of putting a garden together. Before the plants are put into place the fencing, buildings, paths, paved areas, steps, lawns, archways, etc. should be put into position. The modern concept is to create outdoor rooms, which can be used by all the family for specific purposes.

Although a Landscape Designer and a Landscape Architect, are generally considered to be the same profession, in this article the term "Landscape Designer" will refer to those professionals that offer their services to the urbanite; as opposed to a "Landscape Architect", which refers to those practitioners that deal mainly with large projects, such as parks, urban planning and environmental projects.

Landscaping should be a process of evolution of your garden. However, if you want the quick fix and have an established garden all in one process, be prepared for the expense - it will be large. For most people, the money factor is the determining influence on just what your landscape is going to consist of, how you are going to use it, and therefore look like.
