Unlike the aftermath of most modern Olympic Games, the Barcelona Olympics of 1992 brought a lasting legacy of sports complexes, hotels, apartments and tourists to the city. Few doubt the financial benefits the Olympics brought to Barcelona but the most welcome to the people of this great city is the recognition and increased awareness of the traditions and cultures of their Catalan heritage.

If you are planning on visiting Spain and have to choose between visiting the capital city of Madrid or the provincial capital of Catalonia then you should give Barcelona Spain a second thought. In size, Barcelona Spain may be second only to Madrid but its location on the Mediterranean Coast makes it a very attractive destination as well. It lies between the mouth of the river Llobregat and the river Besos and to the west of the city is the Serra de Collserola ridge.

Dining costs can also be reduced with a stay at a hostel. Barcelona hostelries many times offer kitchens and refrigerators for visitor's use. This also gets you out into the city to explore the wonderful food markets and courts and purchase local foods, which you can then prepare yourself for a much reduced cost over restaurant food at the hostel.

You might have heard of a Barcelona chair, but do you really know anything about it? I didn't think so. Barcelona apartments have the advantage of offering you enough space so that everybody has there 'personal area' and you do not have to worry about packing four people into one hotel room, sharing just one bathroom ( all apartments have one full and one half bath ) and dividing up the wardrobe space. You can choose the amount of bedrooms and how you want the beds to be distributed: two doubles, a single, bunk beds, double beds or sofa bed to have even more room.

The urban landscape of Barcelona provides a coastline stretching more than four kilometers and the beaches have earned a name for themselves as popular leisure spaces. It was around the 1980s that the project of first opening the city to the sea was first undertaken.

Barcelona is a truly unique city with lots of to see and to do. What is it so loved for?

When traveling to Spain and Europe you shouldn't miss Barcelona. Known for its great architecture and buildings, Barcelona will leave most people with some lasting memories and the wish to return to this beautiful city. Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia - a large province in eastern Spain - and is most known for its buildings designed by the world famous architect Antoni Gaudi. The city even won a price normally given as a personal price for architects due to the many extraordinary buildings in Barcelona. But, the city offers much more than just fancy buildings and odd angles.
