From Valentines Day (14th February) 2006 a signature is not good enough for you to purchase goods in the UK using your debit or credit card. Large banks in Britain such as HSBC, Barclays and Nat West approved less mortgages in May since the same time in 1997. The cause of this is reluctant buyers, high asking prices and increasing household outgoings. The British Bankers Association said that banks approved 27,986 mortgages in May which was down from the 34,752 in April. This is a 56.1 per cent decline from this time last year. This decrease represents the state of the British housing market and the current economic climate.
