Your dog barks non-stop day and night and you have no clue what to do about this barking. You have tried everything that you can think of doing. You have tried the bark collars, you have tried yelling you have tried screaming. However, nothing seems to be working for your dog to stop his barking. Possibly one of the most annoying action to your neighbors about your dog is your dog's barking. If he displaces everything in your home, then that does not have an effect on your neighbors too much. But the continuous barking day in and night will end up with community difference of opinion and calls to the police force.

Barking is the dog's instinctive means of giving a warning and it would be against your interest to discourage it. However, once you have been alerted, your dog should realize that his job is done. So select a word of praise, such as "Good Dog" or "Okay", or command such as "quiet", and give your dog a pat to indicate that he must now be still.

Barking is a perfectly natural and normal behavior in dogs, but can be very frustrating, tiresome and even embarrassing for the owner. Furthermore, you can't expect a dog to be completely silent all of the time, because it is simply not in their nature. So there comes a time when a little intervention is needed to keep angry neighbors’ at bay and your own sanity intact.

Maltese can be protective of their owner, so will bark at strangers, other animals or upon hearing suspicious noises. In such instances, they act as watch dogs. However, when your dog barks at practically everything that he sees or hears, this is nuisance barking. No doubt this "unnecessary" barking drives you up the wall.
