The term cataracts refers to a clouding of the eye's lens that is located behind the iris and pupil. This particular lens operates by focusing light on to the retina, much in the same way as a camera lens. The lens affected by cataracts is also involved in the eye's focus.

A sty (sometimes spelled stye) is a tender, painful red bump located at the base of an eyelash or under or inside the eyelid. The medical term for a sty is hordeolum (plural, hordeola).

A stye is an infection of the eyelash follicle, usually caused by the staphylococcus bacterium.

An internal sty causes a red, painful swelling, but its location prevents the pus from appearing on the eyelid. A stye develops rapidly, producing an elevated, painful, red, swollen area on the eyelid.

At first, a chalazion looks and feels like a stye, swollen eyelid, pain, and irritation. The term chalazion refers to a cystic swelling with chronic inflammation in an eyelid. Sometimes the bump on your eyelid is actually a chalazion, which looks similar to a stye. A chalazion is sometimes confused with a stye which also appears as a lump in the eyelid.

Styes are caused by staphylococcal bacteria. This disease appears due to debilitated condition of the system. An Eye stye occurs when staphylococcal bacteria infect one of the tiny glands at the base of the eyelid hairs and then becomes inflamed. A chalazion can sometimes be mistaken for a stye.

Despite advances in contact lens material and solutions, eye infections related to contact lens use still exist. Contact lens infections are more prevalent with extended wear lenses. This is due more to overnight wear than to the actual type of lens. Oxygen permeability is also a factor.

An eye infection is caused by the attack of different types of ailments. Irritation of the eyes may be due to many reasons but there are some common reasons like infection due to bacteria, viral or foreign object. People putting on contact lenses are more prone to infection of eye due to the presence of bacteria.
