I was planning to take advantage of the Sunshine this morning and give the lawn the first mow of the season. Mr Harper, our neighbouring farmer doesn't like to see good grass going to waste and when I was greeted by the sight of several ewes and lambs feasting on poor lawn - it was perfect timing!

What's going on in the Lake District this Easter? Well the answer is that it's not all bluebells, daffodils and gambolling lambs - There's chocolate too!
The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway has commissioned a giant Easter Egg and over the Easter holidays they are running a guess the weight competition with free entry to all travellers and a giant Easter Egg for the winner.

I often notice when visiting gardens the great quantities of Daffodils and other early bulbs that we plant to herald in the spring. But how do we ensure we have a great display each year?

Montana's Moccasin Ridge Adventure - a surprising spring training hike bonus as a dreary, rainy day bursts into springtime bloom.

When most people think of bulbs they often think of daffodils or other similar flowers. However, the bulbous variey of flowers goes well beyond that.

While tulips, hyacinths and snowdrops also belong with the 'true' bulb family, there are many flowers that have corms, rhizomes or tubers. These include agapanthus and hippeastrums, dahlias, cannas and other lilies, irises, begonias, anemones and amaryllis, to name just a few.

I often go out to the countryside to visit my mother. Her home is like a magnet; it draws you in from the street. Even the cares of the world, which have been weighing down your shoulders, seem to melt away into the earth along the pathway like rainwater. I am not the only one drawn to mother's house. Several years ago mother came upon an old, out-of-print fairy book at a library book sale.

There is a wealth of travel destinations in South Africa, but this article will focus on just two, namely the Garden Route and the Kruger National Park. Tourism in this country is increasing at a rapid rate and it's not surprising. With perfect weather throughout the year and a host of unique and fascinating people to meet and places to see, it is fast becoming a favorite with foreign visitors.

Colorful perennial plants can be used for both shade gardens and backyard areas getting constant full-sun. It is important to select the right one for the specific area of your yard you want to dress-up. By choosing the right perennials, you can combat three landscape problems - hot and dry locations, wet and swampy areas, and windy or exposed sites.

Enter stage left, Elton John, his flamboyant, often outrageous outfits, were overshadowed by his timeless musical talent and uninhibited taste for jewellery. A stylist, songwriter and outlandish showman, no one ever left a concert in disappointment. To have your jewellery in his radar is an honour and privilege.

This is a fabulous walk, not least because it takes in a good pub halfway round! We park near St Bega's church which is a lovely little church, built on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake over 900 years ago. To get to St Bega's, follow the A591 from Keswick (where you will find several Keswick cottages) towards Bassenthwaite. Carry on for about 4 miles and then turn left down a small single tracked road (signed Bassenthwaite Lake and Scarness). The parking for St Bega's is just down here and then you will need to walk across a couple of fields and an avenue of ancient oaks to get to the church itself.
