Multiple myeloma is a cancer of your plasma cells. Plasma cells are a type of white blood cell present in your bone marrow - the soft, blood-producing tissue that fills in the center of most of your bones. The exact cause of multiple myeloma isn't known.

Although multiple myeloma may not cause symptoms early in the disease, it's likely that you'll experience symptoms as the disease progresses.

AML, (acute myelogenous leukemia), is an aggressive cancer of the bone marrow and blood. It is the most common type of leukemia. AML is also known by the following names-acute myeloblastic leukemia, acute myeloid leukemia, acute granulocytic leukemia or acute nonlymphocytic leukemia. Blood cells are malformed and useless. The cells can accumulate in parts of the body.

Cord blood, also known as placental blood, is the blood that remains in umbilical cord and placenta following a live birth. There are 3 sources of stem cells: umbilical cord blood, embryonic cells and bone marrow. Adult stem cells from bone marrow have limited uses while embryonic stem cell research is a major area of controversy.

Leukemia (pronounced loo-KEE-mee-uh) is a form of cancer (see cancer entry) in which the body produces too many white blood cells. Many forms of leukemia have been identified. They are divided into two general types: acute and chronic.
