Library book sales are getting more competitive, particularly the pre-sale events, but that is not an excuse for leaving your manners at home when you attend.

When a bookseller chooses a name for his/her business, should they be concerned with the name they choose, or does it even matter?

Most authors dream of having some big publishing house publish their work, but the realization of having it happen and the trickle of royalties may just turn a dream into a nightmare.

A few people have recently asked me why I think many of the big book sales are banning scanners and it has been a topic of discussion among many booksellers.

Every time I log in to my email account, I find dozens of "opportunities" for making a ton of money - guaranteed - but the guarantees are as worthless as the opportunities. Sometimes, I wish I could meet the people that make these offers just so I could see if they would lie to me like that in person.

With all the "opportunities" being offered for the Internet marketing of products, there are few that are as standardized, well established, legitimate, or profitable as online bookselling. The customer base is in the hundreds of millions, the marketplaces have a very well known presence, and inventory is easy to find, so what are you waiting for, an invitation?

Virtually every book in print, is available on the Net and usually at a discount to boot. True, you can’t browse the shelves and fondle the books’ dust covers if you order online, but at least you can actually buy the book you want. Online book shops are the first big success story of Internet shopping. The mighty US online bookshop Amazon.com has transformed from a precocious start-up to a multi-million dollar operation within a couple of years and there has been no shortage of other companies out to emulate Amazon’s selling success.

As with almost everything else being sold through the online marketplaces, there are some business "opportunities" being promoted that suggest you sell a virtual inventory of books and have them drop shipped to your customers. This is risky and here are some things you should consider before having anything drop shipped to your customers.

Ah, potty training!

Go to a local bookseller and you will find dozens of books on the subject. Search the Net and there are thousands of websites with information on how to do it stress free. There are even people who are capitalizing on a parent's frustration with potty training by offering to do it for you, for a hefty sum! I honestly can't imagine anything more unseemly than paying someone to teach my child to "go".
