Bringing home a new baby brings with it an exhausting array of new responsibilities and challenges. Is there such a thing as a typical day and night for new parents? Probably not! Remember, the baby has just gone through an enormous change too, so part of the process when you first bring him home is his transition from the womb to the outside world. Keep the baby close to you, keep him wrapped and warm. If you're breastfeeding, this will take some time for both of you to adjust to as well.

It's as well to have your hospital bag for labour ready approximately 1 month before your due date. But what do you pack? It's best to do your research and be well prepared so you're not caught out like I was. Firstly, prepare a list of what you'll need and prepare a separate list for what you'll use in the labour ward. The other items won't be needed until after baby arrives. So, use that time towards the end of the pregnancy to plan your hospital bag for labour and have it packed well before your due date. Best also to leave that kitchen sink at home!
