The most common reasons for knee surgery are arthritis and injury. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease that slowly wears away cartilage. Rheumatoid arthritis is inflammation of the knee, causing damage to the cartilage. Arthritis can develop in people of all ages but is more commonly found in the older segment of the population. Injury can occur following a blow to the knee and is commonly a result of sports related injuries.

Cartilage is what keeps the bones from grinding against each other. As your immune system eats away at your joint cartilage, pain is brought on by the formation of nerve endings in the affected area. Eventually, the pain is so sever that mobility in those joints is virtually impossible.

I suffered from degenerative discs and through exercise was able to reverse them. The bones that were degenerative were at my waist and developed because I did not have curvature in my lower spine, thereby making the cartilage between the bones in the lumbar region degenerate. By exercising to open up the degenerative discs, I was able to build up the discs and even lost one half inch in height because the curvature was put back into my spine.

Osteoarthritis, currently defined as degenerative joint disease, is essentially the long-term deterioration of the integrity of a joint, including the articular cartilage and bone surfaces.

Sore, aching knees, hips, fingers, backrest. Pain after excessively much activity. Pain after overly little. Eventually, almost everyone gets degenerative arthritis. Sometimes it's the result of decades of wear-and-tear on the shock-absorbing cartilage that prevents bone from rubbing against bone. Sometimes it starts sooner, after an injury to the knees or other joints.
