Are there causes of anxiety attacks? In today's world anxiety disorders many times may be the most common mental illness. In the United States 40 million (18.1 per cent) of the adult population is affected. These numbers are on the increase all over the world, demanding immediate attention. Even though studies are usually made only on adults (over 18 years old), this disorder affects all age groups.

Since it was first diagnosed, anxiety has been seen as having negative connotations. The fact of the matter is, anxiety is a completely natural occurrence in the human psyche. As we respond to stimuli that causes anxiety, a powerful chemical known as adrenaline is released to help us cope with the issue at hand. Unfortunately, in some instances this release of adrenaline can bring about a panic attacks anxiety disorder.

Panic attacks are the most extreme manifestation of panic disorder, an anxiety response resulting from an over-production and under-use of adrenalin, the bodily chemical which cause them. When the anxiety reaction has no use for adrenalin, this powerful hormone can create a group of physical reactions which can peak with the formation of a panic attack. This response is natural and physical - it has nothing to do with mental or physical illness or chemical imbalances, but it can feel very threatening indeed.

Anxiety is very common. Fear, worry, anxiety, unease are all very common feelings. Anxiety attacks are not very common, but many of us suffer from anxiety attacks.
