It is a simple matter to study for the CLEP when you have taken the preliminary steps needed to succeed. The advantages of college CLEP study are numerous: you can earn in two hours of work the same number of college credits you might have had you sat through an introductory college course for three months and up to a year. It is also usually much cheaper to take the CLEP than it is to pay for sitting in a college classroom. There are a few tips that can help with college CLEP study so that you pass your exams and earn your credits.

While the program of CLEP testing is widely accepted by a number of institutions, there is some variation in how results of the CLEP exam are treated. In some cases, the test can translate directly into class credit. In other cases, course exception is granted, but not college credit. Some universities, further, limit the amount of credit students may earn through CLEP exams. For this reason, students are well served by investigating their college’s policy on the CLEP exam.

Some students simply gather together several college textbooks in the subject area, and read them and answer some of the questions in the book. This type of clep study can help, but it takes a very long time to work your way through these books. Plus, most questions in the textbooks are essay questions or short answer, and the clep exams are primarily multiple choice, so this route may be of less help in actually preparing for the exam.

CLEP test study guides are what you need in order to prepare for CLEP exams – the successful completion of which can cut two years off the amount of time you will spend in college – and save you tens of thousands of dollars in tuition and fees. For older adults who missed the chance to go to college in their youth or are just now deciding their ready, CLEP test study guides can be invaluable in helping you to recover lost time.

A CLEP test lasts between one and five hours, depending on the subject and the number of credits involved. Although you will probably spend many hours preparing for a CLEP test, the actual test itself allows you to earn a semester's worth of credits in a single morning.

Many students get nervous before a big exam. You know what that feels like--the sweaty palms, the shaking knees, the racing heartbeat. However, there is a way to minimize those fears, and that is through thorough study for the exam you need to take. There is wonderful and easy-to-use way to study for a college level examination program test, and that is by utilizing both online and hardcopy CLEP test prep.

Understand that CLEP exams are not unlike the standardized tests students have been subjected to for years, particularly since the passage of NCLB. They differ somewhat in that a CLEP exam actually does attempt to measure the testee's knowledge of a given subject – but it's also a measure of how well someone takes takes. Knowing and understanding this puts you ahead in the CLEP study game.

Clep testing, with the exception of the English Composition with Essay exam and some exams that have fill-in-the-blank questions, is done primarily using multiple-choice questions. This narrows the kind of clep study that will most help you succeed on your exam.

The CLEP test is a vehicle for proving mastery of a specific subject. Whether competency has been achieved through real-life experience, on-the-job training or independent study, the exam provides the means to quantify your mastery of a subject.

For any and all CLEP testing needs, a variety of study resources are available. Students wishing to enhance the quality of their CLEP study practices can benefit greatly by selecting the resource that best meets their needs. Understanding the differences between the CLEP study guide materials is an important step in selecting the right one.

A clep exam, written by the College Board and administered by your home college, offers you the opportunity to earn college credit by taking a clep test. In ninety minutes, by taking a clep test you can earn the same amount of credit that you would by sitting in an introductory class that takes anywhere from three months to a year to complete.

Before beginning the CLEP test, students specify to which college or university the results should be directed. Based upon the institution’s policy regarding the CLEP exam, course credit or course exemption can be granted in return.

The comprehensive study guide for CLEP is updated as changes are made to the test. It includes example questions and answers for all available exams. In addition, the comprehensive study guide for CLEP includes test-taking pointers and information on obtaining credit for the exam. This guide can be of benefit to students needing to prepare for multiple tests or to gain a deeper understanding of the testing program.

A common pitfall for some students is to assume knowing ‘the facts’ is enough to guarantee a favorable score on their CLEP exam. In reality, however, students must do more than recite memorized facts to pass the test. The whole purpose of CLEP testing is to demonstrate mastery of a topic. In order to accomplish this, students must be able to actually apply the information in any given situation.

Let's face it - if you have life or work experience and are returning to college, there is no good reason to sit through a score of undergraduate required basic classes simply because you need the credits for graduation. Now there is an easier way, and that is by sitting for a clep exam; you can pass the test and earn college credit for these courses instead. Instead of whiling away three to four months or more of your time just to get the credits, you can spend you time more productively and enjoyably by pursuing electives of your choosing, or upper level courses in your degree area instead.

The fact is that even the best self-taught experts in a given field have certain gaps in their knowledge that the right CLEP study materials can help in filling. Even if you think you have completely mastered a subject – for example, you grew up in a bilingual household and know Russian or Spanish as well as you know English – it's a good idea to properly prepare for a CLEP test, because as anyone who has spent any time at all in academia knows, standardized tests virtually never reflect real-world situations. Like the many tests that have been forced on school districts across the country over the past eight years, CLEP is as much a measure of how well you take tests as anything else.

Remember when going through the sample CLEP test prep exams to time yourself; it's not just about your knowledge, after all – it's about how well (and how fast) you take tests. With all due respect to Aesop, there is little room for the intellectual tortoise in this race. This is why it's also a good idea to review the general test taking skills that enabled you to survive the last seven years of NCLB standardized testing; this means pacing yourself over an extended period of time prior to the day of CLEP testing rather than attempting to “cram” the night before (which is a poor strategy in any event).

Whether you are about to embark upon your college career or are returning to complete a degree, undertaking a program of CLEP study in preparation for the exam can be very beneficial. CLEP testing can yield considerable savings in time and money students of any age will appreciate.
