With an estimated 275 billion tons of potentially minable coal reserves in the United States, this nation will stay warm and well-lit for the next 250 plus years, even if we continue to use coal at the same rate at which we use it today. Happily for the companies that mine the black stuff, many Americans realize that they would be smart to make a coal investment. Currently Asian consumption, mainly China and India, out paces any other region in the world in terms of coal usage. Both countries remain huge importers of coal, making them engines of economic growth for exporters. If you're financially savvy, you'll realize that with domestic and international coal demand on the rise, the time to make a coal investment is now.

Movies like "Coal Miner's Daughter" and even "Zoolander" have coal mining scenes that show the true grit of the vocation. Hollywood, by no means, is glamorizing the tough and dirty work. Top news stories and breaking news often show us just how tough coal mining actually is. Still, we flip on our lights without a second thought as to where that energy might be coming from. The blood, sweat, and tears of miners and their families almost never enter our minds as we sit down to dine beneath the warm glow of designer chandeliers. Perhaps a conscious look at where that light comes from is needed from our fellow energy reliant Americans.

Many Americans, especially the ones that live in the chilly Mid-Western states, are thankful for coal mining companies for producing a source of fuel with lots of inexpensive energy to keep their families warm and jobs to keep food on their tables. Since lower-income households are struggling to pay for energy costs, the demand for energy and jobs today has found an abundant resource in coal. Coal mining companies are quick to state that coal is an abundant and affordable energy resource that provides nearly half of the electricity Americans depend upon each and every day. And so, with rising energy needs, the demand for coal, an inexpensive and reliable source of energy, is rising as well.

Why do we choose to invest at all? We invest because we want a financially secure future for ourselves and our families, or we want a better lifestyle that includes more travel, and on and on. If you're young and just starting to head down the road to financial security, it is always smart to look at more growth-oriented vehicles. A lot of first time or new investors would be smart to hire a financial analyst or advisor to assist them. They can develop a road map that will help you to visualize where and how your money will grow and they might even advise you to make a coal mine investment.

Clean coal appears to be a favorite among governments as a technology for clean electricity, but the technology is still in its infancy. Current renewable energies are well developed, so why are so many political figures interested in backing clean coal? We need hard political decisions to be made that have our best long term interests at heart rather than a cheap make over of an unacceptable fuel source.

There are not only one new energy which is called "solar energy" (usually we use it for solar heaters or solar street lights) as we've known. Here we introduce several new energies in the future. They are wave energy, natural gas hydrate energy, coal-bed gas, micro-organisms and the forth nuclear energy.

Before mining companies even existed, gold rushes and boom towns attracted hundreds of thousands of people to the west in search of the illusive riches. If you've only seen movies like Wyatt Earp, you'd think most of these folks were gamblers or officers of the law, at least one clergyman, a bartender, and of course, women of easy virtue. When you think of actual gold miners, you picture old timers who panned for gold in rivers and creeks and "them thar hills." He'd be wearing a red checkered shirt, have a grizzly beard and a pick over his shoulder, and be towing his poor sway backed mule that carries all his gear. It is a pretty powerful image and very well known.

What do loose diamonds have in common with a pile of coal? More than you might think; in fact in geological terms, loose diamonds are nothing more than glorified lumps of coal.

New technologies being used to drill for, and produce, coalbed methane (CBM) gas are making it easier to get out the gas. That's according to Dr. David Marchioni, one of Canada's leading CBM geologists, who appeared on Canada's ROB TV in late April. "Because of advances in the technology, one can be more effective in getting the gas out," Dr. Marchioni told the reporters on Canada's leading business television network.

There are perhaps no two substances more different visually or symbolically than diamonds and lumps of coal. However, diamonds and coal are virtually identical from a chemical and geological standpoint.

In a David and Goliath battle and a win for other local landholders, Caroona farmers, Les and Margaret Alcorn and Geoff and Sharon Brown have won a major legal battle against BHP Billiton over access to their land to prospect for coal. Justice Schmidt in the Supreme Court of New South Wales ruled this morning BHP had failed to give proper notice of its intention to access their land.

Electricity in cables is a very convenient way of transporting energy. It is also fundamental to the quality of modern life it can be produced in so many ways, and has so many uses for which there is no substitute. It can be produced by burning fossil fuels in generators, by using rainwater and the force of gravity (hydroelectric power), by wind turbines, and directly from the sun in photovoltaic cells. It travels almost instantaneously down power lines above or below ground.

More than 15 Chinese coal miners die every day, mainly from gas explosions released when new coal tunnels are opened. A revolutionary new drilling technology from Australia may help save Chinese coal miners' lives and also help reduce air pollution by capturing the methane before it spreads into the atmosphere.

All fossil fuels are organic in origin and thus contain carbon to a greater or lesser degree. This means that there is no way of avoiding emitting CO: when we burn fossil fuels. However, there are considerable differences in the proportion of carbon in each of these different fuels and thus in the amount of CO, emitted. When we compare the burning of coal with the burning of oil or gas we arrive at a very interesting and relevant comparison.

A fireplace includes various types of fuels for building fire. You can use coal, firewood, gas and much more. Today gas fireplaces are becoming popular as coal and firewood are hard to ignite and there are more restrictions on air pollution. Most modern fireplaces use gas as a fuel.

Most residential heating systems are dependent on fossil fuels either directly, such as coal, oil, and gas-fired furnaces or indirectly by electric furnaces supplied by coal, oil, and gas-fired electric generators. The future availability of fossil fuels is threatened by geopolitical concerns. The Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and Russia's slowdown of natural gas pumping are just two glaring examples. There are sources of energy that are greener and renewable and geothermal is one of them.
