Religion in Costa Rica is very visible but widely practiced. Costa Ricans are 90 per cent Catholic. Even though Catholicism is the main religion, most Costa Ricans are not extremely religious. Secular activities take precedence over religious ones and most people do not attend church regularly.

Costa Ricans pay much lower taxes than in other countries. Only one level of government collects taxes at consistent rates and residents owe nothing on income they earn outside of the country. Property tax is also very low and unlike the US, non-profit organizations are required to pay taxes.
