The global credit crunch, which began during July of last year, is still wrecking havoc in the world's financial markets, more and more consumers are finding it difficult to attain the finance within their means.

Across the country the cost of living has increased dramatically forcing people to reign in their spending. London, the South East and Wales have seen a rise in the cost of living of 5.8 per cent. As a result, people have been changing the way in which they spend money and cutting back on non essentials. 81 per cent say that they believe the credit crunch has influenced the way they spend their money.

New figures released by the Bank of England show that purchases on credit cards have risen in the first quarter of 2008. Compared with the same time period in 2007, card purchases rose by 8.9 per cent. Both the number of purchases made on credit cards and the amount spent rose compared to last year.
