I often notice when visiting gardens the great quantities of Daffodils and other early bulbs that we plant to herald in the spring. But how do we ensure we have a great display each year?

If you are looking to beautify your home, few things will do it as cost effectively as a garden. Just think of it; the garden can be large or small, in one area or spread out, roses, tulips, daffodils or any other kinds of flowers you fancy.

There are many fall bulbs available to the average gardener, and it is important to choose the right ones.

When most people think of bulbs they often think of daffodils or other similar flowers. However, the bulbous variey of flowers goes well beyond that.

While tulips, hyacinths and snowdrops also belong with the 'true' bulb family, there are many flowers that have corms, rhizomes or tubers. These include agapanthus and hippeastrums, dahlias, cannas and other lilies, irises, begonias, anemones and amaryllis, to name just a few.

If you haven't planned in advance, that's ok, buy potted bulbs or use some that you have already forced indoors and transplant into your planter. Crocuses, daffodils and tulips shout "spring" as they poke through the dirt. Depending on your location, bright colorful primulas are available in February and will bloom well into late spring.

When you are an indoor gardener the same rules apply to your plants as they do to any other type of gardener. Your plants will need water, food, and plenty of light as does the ones grown outside or in a green house. Of course there are special considerations such as temperature and humidity control but they can be overcome with relatively minor adjustments. With that being said, there are some plants that are best left to the outdoor gardener.
