Data represents the basis of research and other processes that involve collection of useful information. Data retrieval, organizing and analysis have been part of the world for many years. It is due to data accrued over the years that enabled us to land our flag on the moon. So, why is data necessary in the modern day context?

Data acquisition systems have become such a part of the medical profession that we take for granted the ability to translate information into a form that can be measured and tracked. But for most systems, the best way for the signal to travel is in digital format.

There is a large number of products based on data acquisition. It ranges from data acquisition software to data acquisition boards. Read on for further information about this subject.

In short data acquisition systems are also referred to as DAS or DAQ which generally includes acquisition of signals and waveforms and then interpretation of signals to obtain desired information. These different properties which are analyzed through data acquisition are facts such as temperature, pressure, density, viscosity etc.

Have you just got a warning message from your anti-virus about a possible Trojan horse. Yikes! For those of you out of the loop, a Trojan horse is a computer program which seems to be doing one thing, but is actually doing another. Meaning, it can be used, by hackers mostly, to set up a back door in a computer system such that they can gain access later. Of course the name is in reference to the horse used by the Greeks in the Trojan War, and the virus has the similar function of deceiving defenders into bringing an intruder inside. Once a computer is compromised and that the hacker has obtained "root" or systems privileges, pray that you have sufficient data acquisition systems at your disposal.

A closed-ended question is one that requires the respondent to make a selection from a list of responses. The primary advantage of closed-ended data acquisition questions is simply the avoidance of many problems that open-ended questions pose.

Once a rough draft of the questionnaire has been designed, the data acquisition team must take a step back and critically evaluate it. This phase may seem redundant, given all the careful thought that went into each question. At this point, the following items should be considered: (1) Is the questioning necessary? (2) Is the survey too long? (3) Will the questions provide answers to the survey objectives?

Conducting fieldwork is much easier today than in years past. The stereotypical "kitchen table" field service is passing into history. In its place are companies that specialize in field management. The new breed of data acquisition-company is capable of providing questionnaire formatting, screener writing, development of instructional and peripheral materials, shipping departments, field auditing and all coordination of data collection, coding and tab services.

Are hackers just pirates of the Internet? Experts at criminal data acquisition? Or are they like Gary McKinnon, Scottish systems administrator and hacker, accused of what one United States prosecutor claims is the "biggest military computer hack of all time." McKinnon has stated that he was just looking for evidence of free energy suppression and a cover-up of UFO activity and other info potentially useful to the public. The government obviously thinks otherwise. And after 9 years and a series of legal proceedings in England, Gary McKinnon is currently awaiting extradition to the United States.

Open-ended questions are those to which respondents can reply in their own words. In other words, the researcher does not limit the response choices and the respondent has the choice to respond as he or she wishes.

SCADA systems are used in lots of things that we come across in everyday life for instance traffic lights. SCADA systems are also commonly used for civil engineering applications.

Love techy gadgets? How about a watch that can locate places with the touch of a button, record the GPS data of your trip with its built in data logger, which records not only location, but speed and altitude too. Sound amazing? This watch exists and will also tag photos and log your location, so friends can then view your paths on Google Maps or Google Earth. All this and the time of day. It's like having a "black box" strapped to your wrist. And this will help finally help you achieve that coveted "Superhero of Cyberspace" status you've been dreaming about.

Once the marketing researcher has decided on the specific types of questions and the response formats, the next task is the actual writing of the questions that will be used in the data acquisition process. The process of wording a specific question format requires significant time investment on the part of the researcher.

Once the data acquisition team has properly formulated a set of questions, the next step is to sequence them and develop a layout for the questionnaire. Questionnaires are not constructed haphazardly. There is a logical positioning of each section of the questionnaire.

Looking for a handy device to enhance how you collect data? Data logging systems are commonly used for scientific experiments, monitoring systems, or anywhere you need to collect information faster than humanly possible and accuracy is essential. Examples of the information these systems can collect include changes in states of matter, electrical currents, sound frequencies, vibrations, times, light, pressure and temperature. It records the types of information needed for increased knowledge and sometimes improved management of how and why different processes work.

The concept behind this combining is a fact that the value of shareholder is above than that of the sum of two companies alone. Merger and acquisition terms are used alternatively, but they have a slight difference in their meaning.

SCADA basically stands for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. It refers to the industrial control system where the computer system controls and monitors a process. The process could be industrial such as production, refining, and manufacturing, infrastructure such as water treatment, oil and gas pipelines and other systems.

We're used to thinking of amplifiers as something that boosts sound, but in the medical and scientific fields they boost whatever signal is input into them. In many cases this allows a very small signal strength to be captured, amplified and then displayed so that the information can be used.
