Exercise is an important treatment in normalizing blood glucose level in type 2 diabetes as well as in type 1 diabetes. It is also important to know the type of exercise diabetics should undertake that involve minimizing the risks and at the same time deriving maximum benefits to normalize the blood sugar and giving good health. There are mainly three types of exercises – aerobic, anaerobic and stretching exercises.

Gestational diabetes is a temporary condition that occurs during pregnancy. It is one of the top health complications that a woman has to face during pregnancy. Indeed a double curse!

The American Diabetes Association adopted the following classification in 1979.

Type -1, insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus
Type-2, non insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder that cannot be completely cured but can be managed through proper care. A diabetic patient must follow a health lifestyle, which include proper diet plan, exercises and prescribed medicines. This is the only way one can avoid or minimize the risk of diabetes long-term complications.

The type I or type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease. In this, the immune system attacks the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas and destroys them. The pancreas then produces very little or no insulin. Thus, person suffering from type 1 diabetes must take insulin daily to live. Recent researches indicate that it takes about four to seven years for this destruction. Unfortunately, the symptoms do not occur until 80 to 90 per cent of the beta cells have been destroyed.

Diabetes mellitus is a disease in that there is insufficient production of insulin in the body or it is not utilized appropriately. Insulin is that hormone which is basically required for converting starches, sugar and other forms of food into energy for the regular functions of the body. The detailed diabetes information regarding its causes is as yet shrouded in the mystery though a combination of several factors may work towards its development.

There are mainly two different types of diabetes found in the people - Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is also known as insulin dependent or juvenile diabetes. It is a condition in which there is an absolute lack of insulin. Due to the attacking of the body's immune system, the beta cells which are present in the pancreas and are responsible for making and secreting insulin die. Thus there are no cells available to make insulin. So in this case the body will die without getting supplemental insulin immediately or in near- immediate future. The only treatment for this type of diabetes is insulin shots. Almost 10 per cent of the people get affected by this kind of diabetes.
