According to the American Diabetes Association Diabetes affects over 20 million Americans, that's 7 per cent of the population! Another 41 million Americans have pre-diabetes.

The American Diabetes Association adopted the following classification in 1979.

Type -1, insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus
Type-2, non insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus

We all very well know that too many people suffer from diabetes, which can be a killer disease, but many of us do not know the answer to that elementary question, 'What is diabetes?Here we basically try to answer that question. When your blood glucose levels are higher than normal but not high enough to be considered diabetes, you have a condition known as impaired glucose tolerance, or pre diabetes.
