In the previous steps, we have primarily concerned ourselves with that which we are attempting to discipline ourselves and our organizations to do. From this step onward, we will concern ourselves with how to achieve that discipline.

It is easy to do something when you feel like it. It's when you don't feel like it and you force yourself to do it anyway that you move your life and career onto the fast track.

Do you sometimes get frustrated disciplining your child because the discipline appears to be ineffective? Do you sometimes change your discipline in search of the most effective one to use on your child? Have you come to the conclusion that no discipline is effective on your child? If you are experiencing any of these thoughts or feelings today, I would like for you to consider the following...

The problem is not that people don't know how to execute, it's that they don't. And all the books and seminars on "Execution" are not going to help in the least. Without discipline, execution will never happen.

Learning how to discipline a child effectively can be quite frustrating. After all, you can't just spank them or yell at them. Such child discipline techniques don't really work (as I'm sure you already know). They only evoke fear and resentment in a child and I'm pretty sure that isn't what you're going for.

Self discipline starts with the ability to control your behavior. That means motivating yourself to do what you need to do, and stopping yourself from doing things that are bad for you. The "ability to control" is just the start, though, and real discipline is when you have trained your mind in such way that you consistently get the behavior you want.
