This article provides information on mechanical and technological valves.

Solenoid Valves are electromechanical valves for use with liquid or gas. The valves are controlled by an electric current through a solenoid coil. Solenoid valves are the most frequently used control elements in fluidics. Their tasks are to shut off, release, dose, distribute or mix fluids.

A Flow Control Valve is a mechanical device used to regulate and control the flow of a liquid or gas. Typically, these control valves are non-mechanical, usually relying on the undesirable conditions of the regulated substance to open or close the valve. Occasionally, flow control valves will be regulated with exterior monitoring devices, such as pressure and temperature gauges. A flow control valve is usually either a diaphragm or globe valve, although other valves-such as modified ball and gate valves-have been used in certain applications.

Actuators are used for the automation of industrial valves and can be used in all kinds of technical process plants such as wastewater treatment plants, power plants and even refineries. The valves to be automated vary both in design and dimension. The diameters of the valves range from a few inches to a few meters.

When purchasing a radiator whether designer, cast iron or standard you will require valves for the installation. Without the valves you will not be able to install the radiator. Radiator connections are mainly 1/2" BSP. BSP is a threaded connection. Some of the traditional towel rails have 3/4" BSP connections. This is a throwback to the days when these were fitted on gravity systems and bigger pipes were used.

A check valve, clack valve, non-return valve or one-way valve is a mechanical device, a valve, which normally allows fluid (liquid or gas) to flow through it in only one direction. These valves are often designed for safety reasons, to prevent backflow and to ensure that someone operating a system knows which direction fluids and gases are flowing in.

A Ball Valve is a valve with a spherical disc, the part of the valve that controls the flow through it. The sphere has a hole, or port, through the middle so that when the port is in line with both ends of the valve, flow will occur. When the valve is closed, the hole is perpendicular to the ends of the valve, and flow is blocked.

A ball check valve is one of several different types of valves designed to permit the flow of material in one direction only. This type of check valve typically utilizes a spring-loaded ball inside a valve body. When pressurized material flows through the valve in one direction, the ball rises to allow passage. If non-pressurized material begins to flow in the opposite direction, the ball lowers to stop the unwanted material. Ball check valves are one of the simplest forms of one-way valves and can be used for many different applications including fuel and water pumping systems.

A refrigeration compressor is an essential part of what makes refrigeration technology work. A compressor is like a small motor - it consists of a piston, a crankshaft, and a connecting rod that connects the piston to the crankshaft. Similar to the engine in a car, a refrigeration compressor produces compression over its stroke as it is operated.
