Alopecia areata is one of hair loss types, the comforting news is that alopecia areata is not a painful disease and does not make people feel sick physically.

It has come to a time where female hair loss is no longer a stranger to society. There are several common causes of to this unsightly condition. The most common cause for hair loss among women is androgenetic alopecia, a genetically-caused cosmetic disorder, which is related to the androgen hormones. While androgens are related to hair growth, a particular androgen called DHT (dihydrotesterone) is found to be a contributing factor to pattern baldness, hence the term 'alopecia', which refers to hair loss.

Hair loss in women is starting to become common enough that it is now being called "female pattern hair loss". This is a fairly all-encompassing term because there are so many reasons that a woman can lose hair. Male hair loss has been easily explained for years, having its basis in the behavior of a set of hormones called androgens. The androgens are testosterone, androsteinedione, and dihydrotestosterone and are also found in the female body in much smaller amounts that in men. There are many things that can make a woman lose her hair.

Twenty five percent of women experience hair loss. That is 1 out of every 5 women suffer from thinning hair . This is a very high percentage but is not common news . The advertising campaigns aimed at the female population are wholly about maintaining the long flowing hair beautiful. Their is a very limited number of ads on TV which cope with female hair loss as it is not seen as beautiful .

The fact is that it is harder for men to get a cure for baldness because of the way men are made compared to women. I know it sounds ridiculous in the age of 'equality' but some things can be equal but never be the same if you know what I mean!

Hair loss in female occurs in more than one pattern. Hair Loss is caused by the actions of two enzymes; aromatase (which is found predominantly in women) and 5-a reductase (which is found in both women and men).
