The Alpe d'Huez ski resort is considered as the world's largest and most extensive ski area in the Alps with a total of 236 kilometers of ski runs that are served by 84 ski lifts. Due to the height of the Alpe d'Huez, the snow conditions are often excellent. During periods of inadequate snow at the area that faced south, there are several snowmaking facilities to keep the ski runs wonderfully covered.

Valmeinier is one of the two new ski resorts that share an expansive ski area, known today as the Galibier-Thabor. Compared to many ski resorts in France, Valmeinier is relatively new. Its first ski lift was constructed in 1973, and the decades before that, Valmeinier was not considered a ski resort. It was first a mining village. The name "Valmeinier" literally translates into the "valley of the mines."

Compared with its more well-known competitors Courchevel and the Val Thorens, the French ski resort of Meribel provides a distinct and, some would say, more enjoyable skiing experience. Valmeinier, one of the newer ski resorts in the French Alps, is located in the area of France called Galibier-Thabor. Before 1973, when the village was first able to boast of having its own chair lift, Valmeinier was known not as a place to ski, but rather for its primary industry, mining (Valmeinier translates as the "Valley of the Mines").

Tignes, a ski resort near Val d'Isčre in the Espace Killy region of France, is an ideal destination for all skiers. The resort is made up of no fewer than five ski areas, both at the bottom and at the top of the valley. The areas are Les Boisses, Val Claret, Tignes Le Lac, Tignes le Lavachet, and Les Brevieres.
