Sofa beds have been around for a long time. I am not really sure who the genius was behind the first sofa bed, or when it actually came into being, but I know that they have been around for quite awhile. We owned a used furniture store a few years back, and we had some old click clack sofa beds come into the store that looked like they were from about the 1950's. I thought that these were pretty cool, the back would lay flat to change the sofa into a bed.

Many buyers have little or no experience with futons, but the style is attractive enough to warrant their attention. Futon beds are stylish, but they are also very convenient. In many settings, they are far more appropriate - and affordable - than a sleeper sofa or other option.

Buying a futon can be a great investment. They are incredibly versatile; during the day you can use it as a sofa and at nighttime easily turn it into a bed. Many brand-name mattress manufacturers now produce top quality futon mattresses. The Jamison Futon Mattress is one such example.

Futons have become an increasingly popular component of the contemporary living. Why? They are stylish, extremely functional and versatile pieces of furniture that are very suitable for both urban and suburban settings. Futons can be integrated into any decor and the flexible options of futon beds, futon sofas, futon chairs and even futon bunk beds have found space in homes across the globe.

For years, futon religiously served solutions to the bedding problem of millions of Americans. It was a standard feature of apartments of young people who decided to be on their own or were students. However, they remained as makeshift, not very presentable couch in the daytime and unwelcoming, not too comfortable bed at night. They never stood for what we call quality. Though, they loyally served the purpose of people who could not afford to pay for a new bed. Futon was uncomfortable but affordable option.

Convertible sofa beds have become more popular in the last decade than they were in the decade before. I believe part of the reason for this is the change in design, one of these being the futon. Take a look at some great design and style options available that will make you rethink futons.

A futon cover is one of the essential elements of a futon bed. Though it is meant to be primarily decorative, it is also the component of the futon which protects the mattress from dirt, spills and other agents which may wear out the futon.

Futons are an inexpensive way to save space around your home while providing adequate sleeping and lounging areas for the whole family. Bedrooms are usually arranged for sleeping, while living rooms are arranged for watching television or talking. However, this is not how most people use their homes. Most people enjoy reading books and watching television in their bedrooms. People also need sleeping space in their living rooms for company and they enjoy napping while watching television in the living room.

Once upon a time, futons were considered cheap furnishings relegated to the kids' room or finished basement. As consumers realized how versatile, functional and comfortable futons are, the futon's place in the home became more prominent. Now these sofa bed alternatives are proudly displayed in the living rooms, dens and offices of even the highest end homes and businesses.

If you buy a bed, you do not stop there. You also get the pillows, comforter, sheets and throws to make the ensemble complete. Just like a bed, your kids will enjoy their futon more if they have the right materials and accessories. And you will enjoy it more too, because it looks better in the room and is much easier to keep clean.

There are some factors that have to be considered when buying futon mattresses. For example, the weight of the mattress will determine the ease of reconfiguring the futon sofa into a bed. Secondly, the rigidity of the futon mattress will also govern how the mattress folds over the frame when it's used as a couch or chair. Check out the rigidity rating before buying one. Thick futon mattresses of about 8 or 9 inches in thickness are ideal for regular use.
