Now if you want to know if the man you have is the one for you and if they will make a good husband you should look at their genes.

Most of the inherited cases of breast cancer have been linked with the two genes Breast Cancer gene 1 (BRCA1) and Breast Cancer gene 2 (BRCA2). These two genes play a role in keeping the breast cells growing normally and preventing any cancerous cell growth. However, abnormal BRCA 1 and BRCA2 gene increase an individual's risk from breast cancer. These genes usually account for almost up to 10 percent of all breast cancers.

There is a myth that hair loss genes comes from your mother's side of the family. In actuality, it takes both parents' genes to determine if a person is susceptible to the loss of hair. It's exactly the same logic of how you share some traits of your father's, and some of your mother's, which can be explained by dominant and recessive genes. Although either your parents may have hair problems, if their genes turns out recessive, you are unlikely to share the same problem. On the other hand, if it turns out to be dominant, you're in for it.

Gene therapy is the insertion of genes into an individual's cells and tissues to treat a disease, and hereditary diseases in which a defective mutant allele is replaced with a functional one. Although the technology is still in its infancy, it has been used with some success. Antisense therapy is not strictly a form of gene therapy, but is a genetically-mediated therapy and is often considered together with other methods.

Myth: Breast cancer is primarily a genetic disorder. Only 5 percent to 10 percent of breast cancer is owing to abnormal genes. The two genes, Breast Cancer Gene 1 (BRCA 1) and Breast Cancer Gene 2 (BRCA2) are thought to be those that increase the risk of breast cancer. However, the percentage of breast cancer cases in relation to BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutated genes is only 5 per cent. It must be noted that this is only one of the risk factors when considering breast cancer. The other risk factors being age, high fat content diet and obesity, to name a few.

Environmentally oriented memes are sweeping around the world, nowhere is this more evident than in schools where institutions are copying each others green programing, green building and sustainable practices. A "Meme" is a cultural unit (an idea or value or pattern of behavior) that is passed from one person to another by non-genetic means (as by imitation); memes are the cultural counterpart of genes.

There is still no definite reason that could explain what the cause of rheumatoid arthritis is and why does the immune system turn against itself, though the pieces of this puzzle seem to be falling into place after much research has been done on this subject. A possible cause of rheumatoid arthritis could be some genetic factors and scientists are of the opinion that certain genes can play an important role in the immune system and are thus associated with the development of rheumatoid arthritis.

Inner power or inner strength is perhaps one of the most elusive powers known to man. You might ask, can we really build inner strength or is this something hardwired to our genes? While I believe that genes do play a part, much of the inner strength within us is determined by ourselves.

Research shows that depression runs in families and that some people inherit genes that make it more likely for them to get depressed. Not everyone who has the genetic makeup for depression gets depressed, though. And many people who have no family history of depression have the condition. So although genes are one factor, they aren't the single cause of depression.

Imagine for a moment that there is no God!
That we are just here. That we come into being and pass away and the rest of the human race after us carries our memories and in some cases our genes.

Is that such a bad thing?

A genetic disorder is a condition caused by abnormalities in genes or chromosomes. While some diseases, such as cancer, are due to genetic abnormalities acquired in a few cells during life, the term "genetic disease" most commonly refers to diseases present in all cells of the body and present since conception.

Approximately 10 per cent of Colon cancers have a strong genetic factor. The commonest is hereditary non-polyposis colon cancer (HNPCC or Lynch syndrome). This condition is caused by mutation in any one of at least five different genes.

Oxygen is vital to us and our bodies. As we breathe, it helps us produce energy, and as the oxygen is used by our bodies, specific organisms known as free radicals, are made. They work in tandem with body cells creating oxidative stress, that is, cell damage. In this way the cells proteins, genes, and membrane may be affected. Links have been made between oxidative stress and a variety of diseases and even the ageing process itself.
