Geothermal energy is often viewed as a relatively new form of alternative energy. In truth, the use of geothermal energy stretches far back into the past.

As we look to alternative energy sources for our power hungry world, geothermal energy is getting attention. Here is a brief overview of geothermal energy.

Geothermal energy is a platform tapping the inherent energy found within the Earth. Her is an overview of how the process works from a practical perspective.

Geothermal energy has long been one of the alternative energy sources. While it has become quite accepted that it is no longer new, one cannot say that it is the main energy source today. Geothermal energy has a lot of advantages. It is a clean source of energy. Geothermal energy has also long been established as a safe energy source. More so, it is perhaps one of the most cost effective energy sources.

Using the inherent heat in the ground, geothermal, is being pushed by many experts as a great energy source. While this is generally true, there are some negatives as well.

When it comes to geothermal energy, Australia may not hold the top spot in the utilization of this renewable energy, but the potential is certainly there. As it has with other renewables, Australia has turned its attention to geothermal energy as a means to reach certain energy generation goals by the end of the year. These goals somewhat mirror the guidelines set by the Kyoto Protocol.

After recovering from the shock of receiving your utility bill, you might be interested in alternative energy sources. Let's consider the pros of using geothermal in your home.

Few people are even aware that geothermal heat pumps are even an option when it comes to their heating and cooling needs. Most of us are aware that electric heat pumps are available but the new generation of geothermal units are just now gaining popularity. These state-of-the-art heat pumps provide the same continuous and even heat or cooling just like the electric pumps but they are far more efficient at doing so.

Geothermal energy is heat that is provided by the natural furnace that is Earth. Though the country does not use this resource as prevalently as wind or hydroelectric power, Canada is eyeing this renewable energy as yet another upon which to focus.

Though its landscape is breathtaking, the United Kingdom is not known for weather consistent enough to rely on certain types of renewable energy such as solar and wind power. Geothermal energy, however, is a renewable energy that does not rely on the sun's warming rays or a stiff breeze to generate power. The ground under our feet, in the United Kingdom and everywhere else in the world, is naturally heated. Friction caused by scraping and colliding tectonic plates, molten rock flowing below the crust, and the pressure caused by Earth's gravity all combine to make a reliable and dependable renewable energy source able to power and heat homes and businesses.

We should be doing everything possible to develop geothermal energy technologies. This is a largely untapped area of tremendous alternative energy potential, as it simply taps the energy being naturally produced by the Earth herself. Vast amounts of power are present below the surface crust on which we move and have our being. All we need do is tap into it and harness it.

Beneath the earths surface lies an energy source that is more than capable of providing us with heat and hot water. Geothermal heating systems have been designed to efficiently harvest this hidden energy source, which is known as thermal energy. This article will give you a better idea of how this natural energy source has come into existance and how geothermal heating systems actually harvest this energy.

A device that extracts heat from beneath the Earth is called a Geothermal Heat Pump (GHP). The GHP functions based on the principle that heat will move from higher to lower temperature materials, by either conduction or convention (air currents). These pumps absorb energy from both the ground and bodies of water and uses it to provide space and water heating. This is able to occur because the Earth absorbs 50 per cent of the suns heat that reaches the Earth's service.

Most residential heating systems are dependent on fossil fuels either directly, such as coal, oil, and gas-fired furnaces or indirectly by electric furnaces supplied by coal, oil, and gas-fired electric generators. The future availability of fossil fuels is threatened by geopolitical concerns. The Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and Russia's slowdown of natural gas pumping are just two glaring examples. There are sources of energy that are greener and renewable and geothermal is one of them.

As fossil fuels get more expensive, society in general is starting to get serious about finding new power sources. Geothermal heating is a simple answer for homes.

The Germans have really taken off when it comes to renewable fuel sources, and have become one of the major players in the alternative energy game. Under the aegis of the nation's electricity feed laws, the German people set a world record in 2006 by investing over $10 billion (US) in research, development, and implementation of wind turbines, biogas power plants, and solar collection cells.

Many homeowners prefer to have a basement in the house. That is because the basement can be used for all kinds of purposes. For example, you can use it for entertainment, work, research, etc. The only problem is, when the weather gets cold, you have to have some way of heating up the basement so that you can continue using it even when temperatures are low.

With our Planet, and our childrens future, going down the pan we need Alternative Energy Options and we need them Today. It may already be to late, but what will our kids, and their kids, think of us if we dont at least try? It must be today. Alternative Energy Sources have been examined for years now. Its about time we saw a significant announcement about the immediate implementation of Alternative Energy Options.

The National Nanotechnology Initiative defines nanotechnology as "... the understanding and control of matter at dimensions of roughly 1 to 100 nanometers, where unique phenomena enable novel applications."

If you own a business in California, and as part of the cost of doing business you install energy efficient technology such as photovoltaic systems and solar heaters for water tanks, wind generators or geothermal heat pumps, you may be eligible for California energy credits on your taxes.
