Many of the old stand bys of the gundog trainer are as useful today as they have always been. Granted there are now hunters who use many new technical and even electronic aids but the old favorites still remain as part of the training necessities. The Kooikerhundje is a "decoy dog" from the Netherlands used to lure ducks into pens. The breed is believed to be the ancestor of the Duck Toller of Nova Scotia, which performs a similar function. The Clumber Spaniel in appearances is large and docile of nature, with a soft expression. The Spaniel is a slow and steady gundog. The German wirehaired Pointer is valued as a hunting dog with strong drive and well suited as an upland game dog of dependable hunting ability.
