Trans fats not only raise total cholesterol levels, they also deplete good cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein or HDL) which helps protect against heart disease. Whether you are cooking eggs, grilled cheese sandwiches, or just stir frying vegetables, you are probably using at least a teaspoon or two of cooking oil. This adds up pretty quickly, and this is why you want to make sure that you are using healthy cooking oils.
