Being naturally paranoid I contacted eBay directly and found that my account had not been hacked and that this email was actually from someone trying to steal my eBay account information.

To stop identity thieves in their steps, there are several things you can do. You can begin by freezing access to your credit file.

Being hacked or being cracked makes little difference to those on the receiving end. Understandably, their first impulses are to get mad and want to vent. The Cyberiter's contention is that, most of the time, they're lashing out in the wrong direction. After all, crooks are crooks; that's their job.
