When in prison, the prisoners have an urge to talk to their loved ones at their home. The captives frequently feel lonely while they are imprisoned and want to contact their dear ones to lessen the isolation. Keeping these emotions of a prisoner in mind, several prisons had allowed the prisoners to use mobile phones. Like San Francisco's "Rock" and London's grim Tower, Robben Island was not a place in which you would have wanted to be a guest during the time it was in operation as a jail. It was not an institution for rehabilitation. It was the place in which South Africans like Nelson Mandela were incarcerated because of their opposition to the apartheid system. Today it is a tourist attraction, and a monument to South Africa's struggle for liberation.
