To emphasize this; if you were to say in English, ‘I like my coffee strong’, the Spanish equivalent when translated would be ‘Strong coffee pleases me’. The different sounds that the letter"d" takes at the end of a verb in the past tense
An extract from the book: Word Power by the author of this article.
The English language indicates that the action of the verb is in the past by having some form of the "d" or "t" sound end the word. We say some kind of "d" or "t" sound although the word is almost always written with a "d". Many writers are fond of using an abundance of adverbs. The reason for this is that instead of searching for a precise verb they reach for a quick weak verb; it follows then that verb then will need to be buttressed by an adverb. If the adverb is of the kind that ends in 'ly,' then that is a signal of lazy writing. Are you suffering from irregular Menstrual Cycle problem? Most of us have missed a period one or another point. An effective and communicative way to teach reporting verbs in an ESL classroom. As the world continues to get smaller, there is increasing awareness of the need for a worldwide common language. This would be a language you could learn and be certain you could use virtually everywhere you go. For historical reasons, English already more or less fulfils this role, but it is still far from universal. Should English be more intensively promoted or should it be replaced by something better suited to the purpose? In Spanish there are just as many tenses as there are in English, this being twelve all together however, in Spanish as opposed to English there are more structures to these tenses. For instance in English we say 'my name is Gianni' but in Spanish this is more complicated. This simple structure in Spanish could not be translated directly as the structure in Spanish is 'I call myself Gianni' which is 'Yo me llamo Gianni' in Latin American countries or 'Me llamo Gianni' in Spain where the subject pronoun is generally dropped. (Apart from situations when ambiguity could be a problem). English and French have a lot in common, which should make French English translation that much simpler. Both are subject-prominent languages with relatively fixed SVO (subject-verb-object) word order. And yet literary habits, which also play a significant role in translating between the two, are, in some areas, vastly different. A phrase is a group of words without a subject and a conjugated verb; some phrases may have a subject or a conjugated verb, but not both. Intonation, the "music" of a language, is perhaps the most important element of a correct accent. Many people think that pronunciation is what makes up an accent. It may be that pronunciation is very important for an understandable accent. But it is intonation that gives the final touch that makes an accent correct or native. The "music" of a language is its intonation and it is perhaps the most important element of a correct accent. Many people rather wear contact lenses than eyeglasses, for both aesthetic and practical reasons. With contact lenses, you look better and you see better than you can with glasses. People with astigmatism require special types of contact lenses, though, and astigmatism contacts can be a bit more expensive than other contact lenses.
