Abdominal surgery broadly involves the opening up of the abdomen. There are several abdominal organs (such as the stomach, liver, intestines etc) and the surgery of each is dealt with differently. The three most common abdominal surgeries are described below.

Appendicitis (or epityphlitis) is a condition characterized by inflammation of the appendix. All cases require removal of the inflamed appendix, either by laparotomy or laparoscopy. Untreated, mortality is high, mainly due to peritonitis and shock.[1] Reginald Fitz first described acute appendicitis in 1886,[2] and it has been recognized as one of the most common causes of acute abdomen pain worldwide.

Ectopic pregnancy is one of the pregnancy complications that may occur in some women. The fertilized ovum travels from the fallopian tubule and gets implanted in the uterine lining during a normal pregnancy.

Surgery is one of the best ways for treating complex ovarian cyst. Complex ovarian cyst surgery is performed on the patient to remove the cysts which are affecting the health of the sufferer by causing or without causing any damage to the ovaries. The surgery is performed for all types of ovarian cysts. The main concern is regarding the cost of the operation. The patient should also think about the possible discomforts or harm they would have to face prior to the surgery, during the surgery and post surgery. The complex ovarian cyst surgery can be of two types one is the open surgery and other one is called the laparoscopic surgery.

Cancer of the oesophagus is one of the cancers of the digestive tract of the most serious prognosis. Incidence and death rates are higher for populations other than the white race. As far as the incidence rate is concerned, the cancer is classified on the 13th position among men and on the 29th position among women. As far as the death rate is concerned, it is classified on the 12th and 25th positions respectively.
