You may have been visiting your doctor for years complaining about a myriad of symptoms. People may think that you are a hypochondriac. Yet you knew something was wrong. And one day finally you are told a diagnosis that you have a disease called Lyme disease. How is it that the medical community was clueless?

Granted a Lyme literate doctor is hard to find, but not impossible to locate. You would think with all of the press about Lyme disease and all of the people with symptoms that go unexplained until they receive a diagnosis of Lyme that physicians would get on board, fast. Well, if you have Lyme or have suspicions that you may have Lyme you will find that this is not the case.

Lyme disease is an infection caused by a kind of bacterium (germ) called a spirochete (say: "spy-ro-keet"). The disease is carried by deer ticks (found in the northeastern and north-central United States) and western black-legged ticks (found mostly on the Pacific Coast). These ticks can spread the disease to animals and humans through tick bites. These ticks are typically about the size of a sesame seed.

Lyme disease is an infection that is spread by ticks. You can get Lyme disease if you are bitten by an infected tick. But most people who have had a tick bite do not get Lyme disease. It’s still important to see your doctor if you have a tick attached to you that you can't remove.

Travelers, campers, tourists and vacationers alike can be at risk for getting Lyme disease, a serious, debilitating condition caused by being bitten by an infected tick. Some of the symptoms of Lyme disease are the classic bull’s-eye red rash, fatigue or loss of energy, feeling sleepy, tingling and numbness, swollen and painful joints, memory loss, and feeling like you are getting the flu. Paralysis of the face is a less common symptom.

Piroplasmosis is one of the diseases, sometimes fatal, most frequently seen in dogs.

Envision a nightmare of horror, conspiracy, medical mystery, human suffering and yet being called crazy by your doctor or others. Imagine you might have Morgellons Disease.

People who suffer from Morgellons Disease will tell you it is as if "am insect is crawling under their skin". They may have a number of symptoms but in most cases it boils down to unexplained skin rashes and eczemas and the appearance of fibers and granules coming out of their skin

Alternatives to antibiotics are increasingly popular among the Lyme population because many people suffer recurrences of the disease even after high dosages of antibiotics.

Do you reward your dog for years of loyal service, keeping you company and guarding your home by leaving him or her at home or in kennels when you and the family go on holiday? If you take a holiday in a self-catering holiday cottage you can often take your 'best friend' with you.

Ticks are not insects like fleas, but arachnids like mites, spiders, and scorpions. A tick has a one piece body, harpoon like barbs around its mouth to attach to a host for feeding, crablike legs and a sticky secretion to help hold itself to the host. The United States has about 200 tick species whose habitats include woods, beach grass, lawns, forests, and even in some urban areas.

Most people love being outdoor in nice weather. This is especially so for those of us who live in areas with long winters. Being able to remove all heavy clothing and being liberated from spending long hours indoor is doubly-freeing. This freedom can require added diligence on our part however if we live where ticks are found.

There are many different vaccines available today that can prevent infection and disease in your Pit Bull. Vaccines are also available that can help keep many diseases and infections from severely affecting your dogs' health. Vaccination will boost your Pit Bull's immune system to help him be less susceptible to these diseases.

Dog Diseases number in the scores, just as in humans. But, veterinarians tend to see some much more than others. Sadly, a great deal of grief could be avoided if more dog owners were careful to see that their pets are immunized regularly against preventable dog diseases. While experts, as usual, may differ, what are the top ten dog diseases? Here's a list (not necessarily in order of seriousness) with a brief explanation of each disease.

Depending on what part of the world you live in, ticks can occur all year around. For most of us however, late spring means that the tick-free winter is over and it is time to start taking precautions. As someone who has had Lyme disease I believe it is important for people to take preventive measures to protect themselves and their families from exposure to these blood-sucking parasites. The symptoms of this disease are many and varied, but all are distressful. Fortunately, diagnosis has become easier and remedy is sure.
