Geothermal energy is a platform tapping the inherent energy found within the Earth. Her is an overview of how the process works from a practical perspective.

Solar energy offers an alternate solution to the cost and pollution of burning fossil fuels for the production of our energy needs. Some states are aggressively adopting solar energy while other are resisting its adoption. The articles discusses the difference in these states and some models that we may adopt.

China overtook the United States for the first time to claim the sole top spot in Ernst and Young's quarterly renewable energy country attractiveness index, effectively crowning the emerging Asian superpower the world's most worthwhile market for green technology investment. The United States had previously topped the index since 2006, but strong government resolve together with good infrastructure and a robust market has aided the Asian nation in its drive to become a global leader in the renewable energy sector.

As renewable energy continues to gain popularity worldwide, more countries are turning to biomass as a potential renewable energy source. Australia has recently begun to explore the energy production possibilities of biomass. Biomass is the collective name given to all of the plants and animals living on Earth. Energy derived from plants and animals, usually waste or wood byproducts, is most often obtained from burning materials in a steam generator. The energy that is produced usually takes the form of electricity, though some biomass is used to create fuels for processes such as transportation; however, more research is being conducted in this area in order to reduce production costs.

You might think that every solar power plant is about the same as every other one. You'd be wrong. A solar power plant works most efficiently when sunlight is concentrated. A solar power plant system may be a concentrated solar thermal type (CST), use concentrated photovoltaic cells (CPV), or operate with a combination of the two (CPT).

The wind farm is an alternative energy platform that has existed for years, but most people don't realize it. It is particularly prevalent in the United Kingdom.

China, the world's future superpower, is slated to build four nuclear power plants with the help of the U.S. based Westinghouse Electric Company and the Shaw Group Inc. The value of this deal ranges from $5-8 billion dollars and will help the U.S. in their $202 billion dollar trade deficit with China.

If you have ever used mirrors and a magnifying glass to start a fire, you have a pretty good idea of how concentrated photovoltaic systems operate. Using these elements, sunlight is concentrated, amplified and focused onto concentrated photovoltaic solar panels or a transfer fluid duct, creating the heat needed to power an electrical generator.

A discussion of the origin and development of PV solar generated electricity. The physics, materials and growth of the technology is discussed. Examples of acceptance by big business are discussed. A model on how to pay for the technology is given.

Though there are more than 50 wind farms in Australia and they are highly efficient due to sufficient wind, the government has yet to fully model how wind power meets day-to-day and yearly electricity demands. As Australia rises to meet the challenge of the Kyoto Protocol, it is sure to continue model and monitor the renewable energy provided by wind power.

The United States as a whole is second only to Germany in total production of wind-generated electricity, with California, Texas, and Minnesota leading the way. The first public American university, the University of Minnesota-Morris, installed a large-scale wind turbine to help meet the school's electrical needs.

While some lawmakers in Washington D.C. continue to push for refinement of the existing oil and coal industries, innovative companies headed by a new generation of forward-thinking entrepreneurs have continued to press on with the development of practical solar power plants throughout the world. As nonrenewable fossil-fuel stores are further depleted, new technologies such as the concentrated photovoltaic system (CPV) and multijunction solar cells are leading the rest of the world toward the day when the use of petroleum will be limited to the manufacture of some types of plastics - and solar power generation will be the planet's primary source of energy.

The U.S. Department of Energy is providing Texas with more than $218 million in stimulus funding for state energy programs. To help orient energy efficiency leaders, Green Energy Audit Certification is hosting a class in San Antonio on September 28 to jump start energy audit learning.

Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) is a new term in the data center lexicon, comparing a data center's total energy requirement to the energy consumed by the IT load. With 42U's PUE Calculator, a data center operator does not need to know the origin or intricacies of PUE. If the data center manager can access his IT load (from the UPS), and his facility load (from the meter), he receives an initial PUE score. For more detailed calculations, 42U's Energy Savings Calculator makes use of the same formulas to project energy and CO2 savings over one, five, and ten years.
